Hot Kennedy boys surge by Warriors

The Kennedy Cougars and Washington Warriors rose to the occasion on Hall of Fame Night at Washington on Friday.

The hot-shooting Cougars rose a little higher.

Kennedy nailed 61.4 percent of its shots and canned eight 3-pointers in an exciting 75-64 victory over the Warriors in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game before a lively crowd at Washington.

Zach Daniels and Brendon Manning scored 19 points apiece for Kennedy. Manning also grabbed 10 rebounds against the taller Warriors for an impressive double-double.

Bryton Heisler contributed 11 points and fearless freshman Derrick Diggins also popped in 11 points for the winners (12-5, 9-3).

Washington - Boys Basketball

Cold-shooting Warriors fall to Tigers

The Washington Warriors shot poorly from the field Tuesday night and lost to Cedar Falls, 64-56, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at Washington.

The Warriors made only 27.7 percent of their shots from the field (18 of 65) and hit just 24 percent of their 3-point attempts (6 of 25). Washington scored only 20 points in the first half and trailed at intermission, 28-20.

Keion Wills scored 12 points for Washington, which fell to 8-8 overall and 6-5 in the MVC. Laveechie Williams collected a double-double for the Warriors with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Tra'Von Fagan scored 17 points for Cedar Falls (10-5, 6-5). Keeon Johnson added 15 points for the Tigers.

Arrington wins Metro Spotlight Award

Cedar Rapids Washington senior Maurice Arrington is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Arrington, a 6-foot-7 center, has averaged 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in his last four games for the surging Washington basketball team. The Warriors have won three straight Mississippi Valley Conference games, raising their records to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the league.

Arrington has scored 16, 16, 18 and 19 points in his last four games for his most productive stretch of the season. He's also grabbed six, six, eight and seven rebounds in those contests to help the Warriors.

Arrington’s 18 points lead Warriors

WATERLOO – Maurice Arrington and the Washington boys basketball team cruised to a 64-50 win over Waterloo East on Tuesday.

Arrington scored 18 points with eight rebounds to lead the Warriors (7-7). Steven Kramer added 10 points with six assists.

Washington jumped out to a 20-11 lead in the first quarter.

Leighton Nash was the Trojans’ top scorer with eight points as Waterloo East fell to 1-12.

Printy leads Warriors with 22 in loss

Jared Printy’s 22 points and four steals weren’t enough for the Washington boys basketball team in a 75-67 loss to Des Moines Roosevelt on Saturday at Washington.

Maurice Arrington added 16 points for the Warriors, who fell to 6-7.

Jeremiah Chandler, Daniel Luckett and Jamel Carter each had 17 points for Des Moines Roosevelt (6-6).
