Wash boys bake Saints bowlers

Washington overcame a 100-pin deficit with a hot Baker round and rallied to beat Xavier, 3063-3035, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling match at May City Bowl.

Quincy Bruce had the line for the Warriors, rolling games of 217 and 255 for a 472 series. Zach Christensen fired a 244 game and 457 series and Kyle Kaness had a 224 game for Washington.

Xavier's Kyle Elliott shot high game and series with a 266 and 477, respectively. Zach Klemish shot a 432 series and Kirby Guge a 419. Guge had a 237 game, Klemish a 228 and Nick Terfler a 224.

Xavier held a 2097-1997 lead after first round singles, but was outscored 1066-938 in the Baker round.

Xavier held a 20-pin lead heading into the fifth and final Baker game, but Washington shot a 231 and the Saints a 183.

Bruce sets 2 records for Wash bowlers

WATERLOO -- Quincy Bruce established school records with a 290 game and 539 series Friday as the Washington Warriors lost to Waterloo East, 3049-2861, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Cadillac Lanes.

Bryan Cline rolled a 430 series for Washington.

Christensen, Bruce power Warriors past J-Hawks

Zach Christensen shot a 499 series and Quincy Bruce a 480 to power Washington past Jefferson, 3169-2865, Friday in boys bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Christensen shot games of 268 and 231. Bruce fired games of 236 and 244.

Kyle Kaness shot a 418 series and Bryan Cline a 402 for the Warriors.

Zach Ficken led Jefferson with a 238 high game and 426 series. Christian Hindt shot a 416 series and 234 high game.

Quincy Bruce will bowl at Grand View

Cedar Rapids Washington senior Quincy Bruce has accepted a bowling scholarship from Grand View University in Des Moines.

He plans to sign his letter-of-intent Friday afternoon at Lancer Lanes in Cedar Rapids before Washington's match against Jefferson.

Bruce helped the Warriors win a division title in the Mississippi Valley Conference last season and make their first trip to the state tournament in school history. He was named first team all-conference and the Mississippi Division Bowler of the Year.

Bruce has rolled a 300 game and an 830 series. He becomes the first Washington athlete to earn a bowling scholarship.

Kaness-led Warriors conquer Cougars

Kyle Kaness had the line for the Washington boys Friday, firing a high game of 259 and a 466 series that led the Warriors to a 2993-2647 win over Kennedy at Lancer Lanes.

Quincy Bruce and Zach Christensen also had the line for the Warriors. Bruce shot a 236 high game and 439 series. Christensen had a 216 high game and 416 series.

Troy McKiernan led Kennedy with a 238 high game and 423 series.
