Milota, Blood honored on MVC bowling

Kennedy junior Jamie Milota has been named the Athlete of the Year on the Valley Division all-star girls bowling team, the Mississippi Valley Conference announced Thursday.

Rylee Blood, a senior at Prairie and the Class 3A state champion, shared the honor with senior Ashley Care of Waterloo East in the Mississippi Division.

Prairie’s Don Willfong was named Coach of the Year in the Mississippi Division. Linn-Mar’s Jeremy Moser was named Coach of the Year in the Valley Division.

Blood and freshman Prairie teammate Ashley Sundstrom were unanimous first-team picks in the Mississippi Division. Prairie senior Sabrina Keiper and Washington senior Shania Christensen also made the first team.

Washington - Girls Bowling

Blood, Sturtz top all-Metro bowling

Rylee Blood of Prairie and Hunter Sturtz of Jefferson have been honored as the Athletes of the Year on the all-Metro bowling teams, as selected by the Metro coaches.

Prairie girls claimed three of seven spots on the all-Metro first team with Blood, Ashley Sundstrom and Sabrina Keiper. Shania Christensen of Washington, Bre Smith of Marion, Mekena Diercks of Linn-Mar and Jamie Milota of Kennedy also made the first team.

Alex Diercks of Linn-Mar, James Jambois of Kennedy, Matt Galloro of Prairie, Jarrett Steward of Marion, Jacob Fulton of Xavier and Charlie Hart of Xavier joined Sturtz on the all-Metro first team for boys.

Don Willfong of Prairie was named the girls Coach of the Year and Mat Fowler of Jefferson was named the boys Coach of the Year.

Second Team Girls

Kaitlyn Earley (Prairie), Alexis Tschantz (Linn-Mar), Jade Klinefelter (Prairie), Alexis Smith (Marion), Megan Kitzmiller (Jefferson), Tanya Zaugg (Xavier).

Washington - Girls Bowling

Wash, Kennedy girls miss state bowling

Shania Christensen rolled a 225 game and a 410 series for the third-best individual score to lead the Washington girls bowling team to a fourth-place finish with 2,242 pins in a Class 3A state qualifying tournament Tuesday at Lancer Lanes.

Kennedy shot 2,426 pins for third place. Bettendorf won with 2,590 and earned an automatic berth to the state tournament. Cedar Falls was second at 2,566.

Sydney Helms rolled a 198 game and a 387 series to lead the Cougars.

Team standings

1. Bettendorf 2,590; 2. Cedar Falls 2,566; 3. Kennedy 2,426; 4. Washington 2,242.

Fulton earns trip to state bowling

Xavier junior Jacob Fulton was the individual champion and earned a berth to the state bowling tournament by rolling a 223 game and 435 series in a Class 2A qualifier meet Tuesday at May City Bowl.

Waverly-Shell Rock won the team title with 2,898 pins and earned the automatic team berth. Independence shot 2,862 for second, Marion was third with 2,840 and Xavier shot 2,761.

Dakota Timmerman led the Indians with a 235 game and 416 series.

Washington - Girls Bowling

Xavier girls knock off Washington

Jamison Janson rolled a 193 game and a 334 series to lead the Xavier girls bowling team to a 2,234 to 2,124 win over Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet Friday at May City Bowl.

Shania Christensen had a 198 game and a 390 series to lead the Warriors.
