Washington girls splash to title

DES MOINES - The 12th-ranked Cedar Rapids Washington girls swimming team captured first place at the Des Moines Lincoln Invitational on Saturday in Des Moines.

Emily Nelson (200 IM), Lauren Havertape (100 fly), Jenny Hughes (500 free) and Caitlin Sievers (100 breaststroke) captured individual events for the Warriors.

Sievers and Havertape teamed with Kaitlyn Nemickas and Logan Eckhardt to take the 200 medley relay.

Washington finished with 525 points in the seven-team tournament. Carroll placed a distant second with 397.

Washington swimmers sink Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN - Jenny Hughes and Lauren Havertape were triple-winners Thursday night as the Washington Warriors dunked Marshalltown, 106-80, in a girls swimming meet in Marshalltown.

Hughes won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and swam on the triumphant 200 freestyle relay. Havertape captured the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke and swam on the 200 freestyle relay with Hughes, Logan Eckhardt and Kaitlyn Nemickas.

Emily Nelson took the 200 freestyle for the Warriors and Delaney Thoma won the 500 free.

Havertape paces Wash swimmers by LM

Lauren Havertape was a four-time winner Tuesday as the Washington Warriors splashed Linn-Mar, 117-69, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls swimming meet at the Washington pool.

Havertape won the 50 free and 100 fly for Washington. She also swam on the victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Jenny Hughes was a triple-champ for the Warriors. She captured the 200 free and 500 free and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Kaitlyn Nemickas, Caitlin Sievers and Emily Nelson were double-winners for Washington. Hannah Gardner was a double-winner for Linn-Mar.

Kennedy swimmers dunk Warriors

The Kennedy girls swimming team won all 12 events and defeated Washington, 133-53, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet Tuesday night at the Kennedy pool.

Kennedy is ranked No. 6 by the IGHSAU and Washington is ranked No. 10, but the Cougars did not give the Warriors any room to breathe.

Jessica Williams was a four-time winner for Kennedy. She captured the 100 fly and 100 back and swam on the victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Kirsten Siebenga, Kassidy Long and Maddie Bagby were triple champs for the Cougars. MacKinzee Macho and Taylor Golden were double winners.

Lauren Havertape was a triple-winner Thursday night as the Washington Warriors dunked Dubuque Wahlert, 122-63, in a Mississippi Valley Conference swimming meet at Washington.

Havertape won the 100 freestyle and swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Caitlin Sievers, Emily Nelson and Jenny Hughes were double-winners for the Warriors.
