Kennedy boys share track title

DUBUQUE - The Kennedy Cougars tied Iowa City West for first place at the Class 4A boys state track qualifier in Dubuque Thursday.

The Cougars and Trojans both finished with 107 points in the incredibly tight standings. Prairie placed third with 105.5 points and Dubuque Senior was fourth at 104.

Derek Jacobus (long jump), Willie Rhoads (high jump) and Marcus Perkins (400 hurdles) won titles for Kennedy. The Cougars also claimed the shuttle hurdle relay in a swift 57.42 seconds and won the 4x200 relay.

Tysen VanDraska captured the 800 meter run for Prairie. The Washington Warriors won the 4x100 relay.

The Washington girls won three events at the coed meet. Amarri Waller claimed the 100 meter dash. The Warriors also won the distance medley and 4x100 relay.

Kenzie Soeken of Prairie won the high jump.

Jenks wins 3 titles at Valley meet

Linn-Mar sophomore Stephanie Jenks captured the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs by comfortable margins at the MVC Valley Division girls track meet at Kingston Stadium Thursday.

Jenks won the 800 by more than 11 seconds, the 1500 by more than 13 seconds and the 3000 by more than 24 seconds.

Wahlert edged Linn-Mar for the team title, 154-127.5.

Rachel Perry of Linn-Mar sped to victory in the 400 in 58.93 seconds. The Lions also won the 4x800 relay with Maddie Saville, Ally Hicks, Hanna Saville and Morgan Garcia.

Prairie finished fourth in the team standings. Kenzie Soeken won the high jump, Halle Lueck took the long jump and the Hawks won the sprint medley with Hailee Montgomery, Alexa Martin, Soeken and Hannah Grimm.

Washington won two events and finished in fifth place. Kadejah Sanders took the 100 meter dash and Amara Taylor claimed the 400 hurdles.

Ward, Gorman place at Sherwood Relays

IOWA CITY —  Mariah Ward of Cedar Rapids Washington placed second in the 100 meter dash in 13.75 seconds Friday at the Sherwood Relays in Iowa City.

Shannon Gorman finished third in the 1500 for the Warriors in 5 minutes, 16.63 seconds.

Iowa City High nipped Mount Pleasant for the team championship, 147-143. Washington placed seventh and last in the standings with 23 points.

Washington - Girls Track

Jasmyne Jones will run at Wartburg

Cedar Rapids Washington senior Jasmyne Jones plans to run track at Wartburg College next year.

Jones, a sprinter, qualified for the Class 4A state track meet in four events last May and helped the Warriors place sixth in the 4x200 relay, ninth in the 4x100 relay, 10th in the distance medley and 14th in the sprint medley.

Jones is also a starting guard on the Washington basketball team, which is ranked No.8 in Class 5A.

 

Washington - Girls Track

Washington girls win 4 events at Wahawk Invy

WATERLOO - Washington girls won four events and finished in third place Monday in the Wahawk Invitational track meet at Waterloo West.

Washington's Kadejah Sanders won the 100 meters and Shannon Gorman the 1,500.

The Warriors also won the distance medley and sprint medley relays.

Cedar Falls won the five-team meet with 210 points.
