Schuler, Mercado win twice for Warriors

Trey Schuler and JP Mercado had a pair of wins, but Washington lost twice Thursday night in Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling.

The Warriors were beaten by Dubuque Wahlert. 49-25, and by Kennedy, 51-28.

Schuler had a pin at 126 pounds against Wahlert, then dropped to 120 and recorded a major decision against Kennedy.

Mercado (145) won by decision against Wahlert and had a pin against Kennedy.

Fox and Gillis finish 3rd at Benton

VAN HORNE - Noah Fox and Zac Gillis recorded third place finishes Saturday at the Bobcat "Jerry Eckenrod" Invitational wrestling tournament.

Fox finished third at 195 pounds and Gillis was third at 285. They combined for 40 points, nearly half of the Warriors' 83 team points. Washington finished in 10th place.

West Delaware won with 270.5 points. Williamsburg was a distant second with 169.5 points.

Gillis wins title at DeWitt tourney

DEWITT -- Zac Gillis of Cedar Rapids Washington pinned Luke Bird of East Buchanan to win the 285-pound title at the DeWitt Central wrestling tournament Saturday.

Gillis collected three straight pins in the tournament and decked Bird in 2:45 in the finals.

Dax Dills finished second at 138 pounds for the Warriors. Noah Williams (182) and JP Mercado (152) placed third for Washington.

Tyler Burkle placed fourth at 160 pounds, Noah Fox was sixth at 195 and Jared Eicher finished sixth at 170.

The Warriors finished seventh out of 12 teams in the standings. Clinton won the title.

Warriors split MVC wrestling meets

IOWA CITY -- Dax Dills, Noah Williams and Noah Fox won a pair of matches Thursday night as the Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors split a Mississippi Valley Conference double-dual wrestling meet in Iowa City.

Fox collected two pins at 195 pounds for Washington. Dills (138) and Williams (182) both had a pin and a decision.

The Warriors topped Iowa City High (51-27) and lost to Dubuque Hempstead (47-24).

J-Hawks rout Warriors on the mat

CEDAR FALLS - Jefferson got six forfeits and recorded two pins en route to a 55-20 pasting of Washington in wrestling Thursday night at Cedar Falls.

Cedar Falls beat both teams.

Josh Allen (170) and Randy Deaton (195) had pins for the J-Hawks against Washington. Luke Sedlacek (160) won by a major decision and Cody Hensel (132) by decision.

Zac Gillis (285) had a fall for Washington. JP Mercado (152) won by technical fall and Devin Dills (120) by decision.
