Neagle wins 112 title at Cascade tourney

CASCADE -- Troy Neagle won the 112-pound championship at the Cascade Invitational Saturday with a 7-6 victory over a wrestler from Dubuque Senior in the finals.

Washington finished fifth in the 12-team tournament. Jordan Eicher took second at 125 pounds for the Warriors.

Iowa City West pins Warriors

IOWA CITY -- Tyler Burrell pinned his foe but was Washington's only winner and the Warrriors were flattened by top-ranked Iowa City West, 76-6, Thursday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling meet.

West had 10 pins.

The Warriors also were beaten by Prairie, 58-12. Burrell won by decision. Kaiser Herz had a pin.

Schuler, Warriors pin Xavier

You don't have to be a big, muscular guy to enjoy high school sports. Just take a look at Trey Schuler, all 103 pounds of him.

Schuler, a freshman at Washington High School, played football this fall for the Warriors and plans to participate in track and baseball as the year goes along. Right now, he packs a punch for the Warriors at the lightest weight on the wrestling team.

Schuler pinned Jerry Duball of Xavier in 4:48 Thursday night to help Washington beat the Saints, 42-27, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Washington.

Herz glad he didn’t quit wrestling at Wash

Kaiser Herz cut eight pounds in one day last December, trying to make weight for the Washington wrestling team.

“Stupid,” he says now.

It was a school day. He began the day at 146 pounds and dropped to 138, but still had three pounds to go.

Burrell wins Fort Madison title

FORT MADISON — Washington'sTyler Burrell pinned Garret Nolte of Clear Creek Amana to win the 285-pound title Dec. 18 at the Fort Madison Invitational.

Burrell was the Warriors' only champion. Kennedy crowned three champions to win the 11-team tournament, downing host Fort Madison, 198.5-184. Washington finished sixth with 93 points. Marion was 10th with 45.
