Burrell upsets Herman

Tyler Burrell of Washington trimmed Conner Herman of Jefferson, 4-2, in the heavyweight bout of their Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling meet Dec. 16.

Herman is ranked No.2 at 215 pounds by The Predicament, but he moved up to heavyweight to face Burrell. Herman placed sixth at the state meet at heavyweight last season.

Blake Carson collected a pair of pins for Jefferson in the double-dual as the J-Hawks beat Washington, 55-13, and Dubuque Hempstead, 42-29. Hempstead topped Washington, 42-27.

Warriors stumble to 12th at 5 Seasons Duals

Washington play an obliging co-host Dec. 11, losing all three of its matches and finishing 12th at the 5 Seasons Duals.

Kennedy was the other co-host and it finished eighth.

Waverly-Shell Rock defeated top-seeded Bettendorf, 41-23, in the finals.

Bad weather cut the number of participating teams from 16 to 12.

Warriors beaten by Kennedy, beat Senior

Shane Williams and Zach Deitrich didn’t get to wrestle very much for Kennedy Thursday night (Dec. 9), but it was their own fault.

They pinned their guys too fast.

Williams stuck his two opponents in 2 minutes, 18 seconds and Deitrich flattened his guys in 2:50 as the Cougars swept a double-dual from Dubuque Senior and Washington at the Washington gym.

Kennedy whipped Senior, 60-18, and beat Washington, 53-21.  The Warriors beat Senior, 43-33.

Warriors 9th at West Delaware

MANCHESTER — Washington did not have a wrestler reach the championship round and finished ninth at the West Delaware Invitational on Dec. 4.

Linn-Mar won the nine-team meet. Marion was eighth.

Warriors lose 2 close matches

WATERLOO — Kaiser Herz pinned both of his opponents Thursday night (Dec. 2) as Washington lost two close battles in Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling.

The Warriors fell to Waterloo West, 43-32, and lost to Dubuque Wahlert, 43-34.

Herz was perfect at 140 pounds, sticking one opponent in 39 seconds and flattening another in 2:36.

Trey Schuler (103) registered a technical fall and a pin for Washington. Troy Neagle (112) collected a pin and won by forfeit. Jordan Eicher (119) posted a pin and a major decision. Tyler Burrell (heavyweight) had a decision and a pin.
