Trcka breaks 200 twice in Saints’ loss

Sophomore Tara Trcka rolled games of 210 and 204 for a high series of 414, but it wasn’t enough to rally Xavier past Dubuque Hempstead in a girls’ Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ bowling match Dec. 3 at May City Bowl.

Jefferson’s depth too much for Xavier

Senior Nicole Werling’s 227 game and 403 series keyed Jefferson’s victory over Xavier, 2713-2298, in the season opener Nov. 23 at May City Bowl. Junior Whitnie Jones rolled a 382 series for the J-Hawks.

Tara Trcka of Xavier captured top honors with games of 198 and 209 for a two-game series of 407.

Bowling is fastest-growing sport in Iowa

Too bad high school letter jackets are no longer in vogue.

Maybe then the newest group of prep letter winners would get more recognition.

Right now, high school bowling is mostly a sport followed by the bowlers themselves, their family members and few fans.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not popular.

“It is,” says Linn-Mar head boys coach Andy Diercks, “the fastest-growing high school and collegiate sport in the country.

“It’s had double-digit growth in terms of numbers in the past five or six years. And it just keeps growing.”
