Bertsch, Olberding lead Saints to golf win

Maddie Bertsch and teammate Lisa Olberding both shot 40 to lead Xavier to a 28-stroke win Wednesday in a girls golf quadrangular meet at Gardner.

Burlington was second. Host Washington was four shots behind the Grayhounds in third place.

Washington's MJ Kamin was third with a 42.

Grace Winker and Hailey Sojka both shot 43 for Xavier.

WATERLOO - Maddie Bertsch shot a 76 Monday to finish second in the individual standings and help the Xavier Saints place second in the team standings at the MVC Valley Division golf tournament at the Irv Warren course.

MJ Kamin of Washington finished third with a 78.

Allison Rolinger of Cedar Falls took medalist honors with a 73 and led the Tigers to the championship.

Bertsch, Saints shine at CRANDIC golf

Xavier High School junior Maddie Bertsch is thinking seriously about playing golf in college in a few years.

Don't bet against her.

Bertsch fired a 3-over-par 75 Wednesday at Gardner Golf Course to help the Saints run away with the annual CRANDIC tournament.

IOWA CITY - Maddie Bertsch shot a 2-over-par 38 and led Xavier past Iowa City Regina, 179-217, Tuesday in a girls golf meet at Pleasant Valley.

Xavier's Grace Winker was runnerup with a 43.

Xavier girls 2nd at MVC Super Meet

CEDAR FALLS - MJ Kamin was runnerup medalist and Xavier was runnerup in the team race Monday at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet girls golf tournament at Pheasant Ridge.

Kamin shot an 80 and finished three strokes behind Megan Brewer of Cedar Falls.

Maddie Bertsch carded an 84, and Kara Zwanziger and Grace Winker each shot 85 to lead Xavier. The Saints finished 14 strokes behind champion Cedar Falls.

Linn-Mar was third, 20 strokes behind Xavier. Prairie was seventh, Kennedy 11th, Washington 12th and Jefferson 13th.
