Lions, Cougars drop spot in soccer poll

Linn-Mar and Kennedy fell one spot in the new boys soccer rankings released Monday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Linn-Mar fell from No. 4 to No. 5 in Class 3A and Kennedy dropped from No. 10 to No. 11. Prairie stayed in the seventh spot in the rankings.

The Xavier Saints remained No. 2 in Class 2A.

No.2 Saints boot No.15 Wahlert

DUBUQUE - The second-ranked Xavier Saints received goals from seven different players Tuesday and spanked No.15 Dubuque Wahlert, 7-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match in Dubuque.

Will Hanigan, Luke Koechner, Nolan Armstrong, Nick Koechner, Connor Ramlo, Luke Duball and Tyler Testin fired in goals for Xavier. Dubal and Ramlo had two assists. Stephen Jones, Josh Hoffmann and Connor Stevenson also had assists.

Xavier led at halftime, 5-0. Jordan Even and Daniel Richardson split time in goal.

No.2 Saints trimmed by IC West

IOWA CITY - The Xavier boys soccer team was edged by Iowa City West, 2-1, in a battle of ranked teams in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Iowa City Thursday.

Luke Koechner tied the score for the Saints, 1-1, but Iowa City West scored a minute later for its 2-1 edge. All the scoring came in the first half.

Connor Ramlo collected an assist on Koechner's goal.

Xavier is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A. Iowa City West is ranked No. 13 in Class 3A and is the defending state champion.

Xavier boys trim Washington, 3-2

Joshua Hoffmann, Nolan Armstrong and Connor Ramlo scored goals Tuesday night as the Xavier Saints trimmed Washington, 3-2, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

Aroni Niyikiza and AJ Patterson scored goals for Washington.

Stephen Jones collected two assists for the Saints, who are ranked No. 4 in Class 2A.

Trevor Thulin and Niyikiza had assists for the Warriors, who are ranked No. 14 in Class 3A.
