Prairie climbs in volleyball poll

The Prairie Hawks climbed one spot to No. 9 in the Class 5A volleyball rankings Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Marion Indians stayed No. 3 in Class 4A and the Xavier Saints remained No. 9 in Class 4A.

Xavier spikers swept by Little Hawks

The Iowa City High Little Hawks swept the Xavier Saints, 26-24, 25-9, 25-17, in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match at Xavier Tuesday night.

Kayla Torson collected 11 kills and eight digs for the Saints, who are ranked No.9 in Class 4A. Madsy Richards had 15 digs and Charlotte Richards finished with four blocks.

Rachel Sodawasser contributed nine assists. Ellie McDermott had three aces.

 

Xavier - Volleyball

Torson commits to Nebraska-Omaha

Kayla Torson of Xavier High School has accepted a scholarship to play college volleyball at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Torson, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, was named second team all-state by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) last year.

Torson entered Tuesday night's match against Iowa City High with 140 kills, 29 blocks and 14 aces for the Saints, who are ranked No.9 in Class 4A.

   

Xavier - Volleyball

Prairie pops into volleyball rankings

The Cedar Rapids Prairie volleyball team has jumped into the No. 10 spot in the Class 5A state volleyball rankings, the IGHSAU announced Thursday.

The Hawks (9-3) defeated then-No. 6 Linn-Mar in the championship match of the Linn-Mar tournament Saturday, then they topped the Lions again in a Mississippi Valley Conference match Tuesday.

Linn-Mar dropped out of the rankings this week.

The Marion Indians (11-2) stayed in the No. 3 spot in the Class 4A poll. The Xavier Saints (8-4) climbed one notch to No. 9 in Class 4A.

No.10 Saints sweep Waterloo East

WATERLOO - The 10th-ranked Xavier volleyball team swept Waterloo East, 25-16, 25-22, 29-27, in a Mississippi Valley Conference contest in Waterloo Tuesday night.

Kayla Torson led the Saints with 19 kills and 10 digs. Madsy Richards collected 17 digs and 10 kills.

Charlotte Richards contributed four aces and three blocks. Ellie McDermott had three aces and two blocks.

Melanie Wertzberger had 21 assists, Rachel Sodawasser had 10 assists and Olivia Krapfl had two blocks.
