Cedar Valley Christian - Boys Soccer

Cedar Valley boots Scattergood, 1-0

WEST BRANCH —  Mike Scroggs scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute of play Thursday as Cedar Valley Christian nipped the Scattergood Friends school, 1-0, in boys soccer.

Keeper Joseph Zasadny was credited with the shutout and three saves.

Cedar Valley Christian falls in shootout

Cedar Valley Christian battled Northeast Goose Lake to a scoreless draw through regulation and overtime, but the hosts were outscored 4-2 in the shootout, losing a 1-0 decision Tuesday at the Tuma Soccer Complex.

Mike Scroggs and Travis Geels connected on penalty kicks for CVC. Joseph Zasadny was strong in goal for Cedar Valley through regulation and the overtime.

Huskies blanked in 1A substate

GLADBROOK - The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys built a 4-0 lead by halftime and beat Cedar Valley Christian, 5-0, Monday in the first round of the Class 1A substate soccer tournament.

The loss ended Cedar Valley's season at 8-7.

Huskies blank Prince of Peace, 2-0

CLINTON - Cedar Valley scored goals early and late to beat Prince of Peace, 2-0, Monday in boys soccer.

Cedar Valley's first goal came in the second minute, its second with two minutes left in the match.

The Huskies scored their first goal when Arturo Melendez played a perfectly weighted through ball to Luke Zasadny, who scored the goal.

The second goal came when Izzy Hoffman won a loose ball and played a through ball to Danielo Mafuta, who put it in the back of the net.

Joseph Zasadny had four saves to keep a clean sheet as keeper.

CVC soccer team having a blast

Cedar Valley Christian’s 3-0 soccer victory over Prince of Peace Tuesday pushed its season record to 7-6, keeping Coach Adam Conn hopeful heading into tournament play.

“We should have a decent draw, anyway,” Conn said. “A winnable game, at least.”

“It’s going to be scary, because the state teams are all good,” freshman forward Luke Zasadny said. “It’s scary, playing the big defenders.”
