KCC volleyball splits 2 matches

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team split two more matches at the Johnson County Tournament in Kansas Saturday to finish the event with a 2-2 record.

The Eagles swept North Platte, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20, and lost to sixth-ranked Central of Nebraska, 25-15, 25-21, 25-19.

The split left Kirkwood with a 20-6 record.

Madsy Richards led Kirkwood with 12 kills against North Platte. Alex Miner had 11 kills, Caiti Peterson had 34 assists, Jenna Laxton contributed 14 digs and Miner had five blocks.

Richards topped the Eagles with 10 kills against Central. Peterson had 30 more assists and Laxton had 12 digs.

 

 

 

Kirkwood - Volleyball

Kirkwood splits 2 volleyball matches

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Kirkwood women's volleyball team split its two matches at the Johnson County tournament in Kansas Friday.

The Eagles swept Johnson County, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, with Madsy Richards collecting 15 kills.

Kirkwood lost to powerful Iowa Western, 25-16, 25-16, 25-19, in a match against one of the top junior college volleyball programs in the country. Iowa Western is ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA Division I ranks, while Kirkwood is ranked No. 4 in Division II.

The split left the Eagles with a 19-5 record heading into the second day of the tournament Saturday.

Alex Miner had 11 kills in the victory over Johnson County and Morgan Grimm had nine kills. Caiti Peterson contributed 38 assists, Jenna Laxton had 19 digs and Erica Armstrong blocked five shots.

Richards had 12 more kills against Iowa Western. Peterson had 26 assists, Laxton had 17 digs and Miner blocked four shots.

Kirkwood spikes SCC for 5-0 record

WEST BURLINGTON - The Kirkwood women's volleyball team raised its conference record to 5-0 Wednesday night with a 25-3, 25-13, 25-16 over Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.

Madsy Richards led the Eagles (18-4) with 11 kills. Alex Miner had eight kills, Erica Armstrong six kills and Morgan Grimm five kills.

Caiti Peterson collected 30 assists and 11 digs for Kirkwood. Armstrong had nine blocks.

Kirkwood drops 2 matches in Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Kirkwood Eagles had a disappointing day at the Parkland volleyball tournament Saturday in Champaign, Ill.

The fourth-ranked Eagles lost a squeaker to Muskegon, 25-21, 12-25, 11-25, 25-21, 15-12, and also fell to fifth-ranked Owens in straight sets, 25-17, 25-11, 25-14.

The results snapped Kirkwood's 16-match winning streak and dropped the Eagles to 17-4 for the campaign.

Madsy Richards collected 21 kills against Muskegon. Margaret Micka had 10 kills, Alex Miner nine, Erica Armstrong eight and Morgan Grimm six. Caiti Peterson had 44 assists. Jenna Laxton finished with 22 digs. Armstrong blocked six shots. Richards and Grimm had five blocks.

Richards led Kirkwood with eight kills against Owens. Miner had six kills, Armstrong five and Micka four. Peterson had 21 assists. Laxton furnished 12 digs.

No. 4 Eagles spike 2 ranked foes

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The fourth-ranked Kirkwood volleyball team raised its winning streak to 16 straight matches Friday by whipping two ranked opponents at the Parkland tournament in Champaign, Ill.T

The Eagles spanked Vincennes, 25-20, 25-19, 25-15, and blanked Lincoln Land, 25-16, 29-27, 25-20. Vincennes is ranked No. 20 in Division I and Lincoln Land is ranked No. 3 in Division II.

Madsy Richards led a balanced attack against Vincennes with seven kills. Alex Miner collected six kills, while Erica Armstrong and Morgan Grimm had five kill-shots apiece. Caiti Peterson had 21 assists. Jenna Laxton had 12 digs and Miner blocked five shots.

Richards and Margaret Micka finished with 10 kills against Lincoln Land. Grimm had eight kills, Miner seven kills and Armstrong six kills.

Peterson piled up 31 more assists against Lincoln Land. Richards had 19 digs, Laxton 17 digs,
Micka 14 digs and Grimm 14 digs. Miner and Peterson blocked four shots.

Kirkwood raised its record to 17-2 heading into Saturday's action.
