Lueck commits to Indiana State volleyball

Kirkwood All-American Halle Lueck plans to continue her volleyball career at Indiana State next season.

Lueck, a Cedar Rapids Prairie grad, finished second in the nation at the NJCAA Division II level last season with 1,761 assists and was named a first team All-American.

Kirkwood placed seventh at the national tournament in 2015.

KCC's Lueck, Wenzel named All-Americans

Kirkwood volleyball players Halle Lueck and Erin Wenzel have been named to the 2015 NJCAA Division II Volleyball All-America Teams.

Lueck, a 5-foot-9 sophomore, finished second in the nation with 1,761 assists and was named a first team All-American. Wenzel, a 6-foot sophomore, finished second in the nation with 627 kills and was named a second team All-American.

Lueck graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School. Wenzel is from Clinton.

Kirkwood finished seventh at the national tournament this year with a 30-17 record.

KCC volleyball finishes 7th in nation

PHOENIX - The Kirkwood women's volleyball team pulled off another upset at the NJCAA Division II national tournament Saturday and finished seventh in the country this year.

The Eagles topped Central of Nebraska, 3-1, in their final match in the double-elimination tournament in Phoenix to end the season with a 30-17 record.

Kirkwood was seeded 12th out of 16 teams in the tournament and went 2-2 in four matches. The Eagles upset No. 5 seed Owens, lost to No. 4 seed DMACC, lost to No. 8 seed Cowley and whipped No. 7 seed Central.

KCC volleyball falls in NJCAA quarterfinals

PHOENIX - The Kirkwood Eagles were swept by DMACC, 25-18, 25-13, 25-19, in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II national volleyball tournament Thursday night in Phoenix.

The Eagles began the tournament by upsetting Owens Community College, 25-23, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22, in the opening round.

Kirkwood (29-16) will face Parkland or Cowley in a consolation match Friday afternoon in the double-elimination tournament.

Erin Wenzel led Kirkwood with 15 kills and 18 digs against Owens. Morgan Grimm collected 12 kills, Alex Miner had nine, Madsy Richards eight and Erica Armstrong four.

Kirkwood volleyball draws No. 12 seed

The Kirkwood Community College volleyball team has been seeded No. 12 for the NJCAA Division II national tournament this week.

The Eagles (28-15) will face No. 5 seed Owens Community College (37-6) in the first round Thursday at 3 p.m. in Phoenix. Kirkwood lost to Owens, 3-1, earlier this season.

Parkland College is the No. 1 seed in the 16-team tournament with an imposing 53-0 record. DMACC is seeded No. 4 at 32-8.
