Eagles spike NIACC in regional opener

The Kirkwood Eagles swept NIACC, 25-16, 25-13, 25-13, in the opening round of the regional volleyball tournament at Kirkwood Wednesday night.

The ninth-ranked Eagles (33-8) advanced to the next round Saturday.

Halle Lueck collected 26 assists and nine digs for Kirkwood. Megan Allmandinger had nine kills. Erin Wenzel provided seven kills and five blocks. Heather Poula had seven digs and six kills.

Becca Bell had seven kills, Marissa Stark 13 digs, Nicole Snyder nine digs and Payton Hilton seven blocks.

No.1 Iowa Western clips Kirkwood

BOONE - The Kirkwood Eagles lost to Iowa Western, 25-20, 26-24, 14-25, 25-17, Friday in a showdown between two of the top junior college volleyball programs in the country.

Iowa Western is ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Divison I and Kirkwood is ranked No. 9 in NJCAA Division II.

Erin Wenzel led the Eagles with 15 kills. Heather Poula collected 14 kills and 12 digs. Halle Lueck had 39 assists and 15 digs. Megan Allmandinger had 13 kills, Nicole Snyder 16 digs and Becca Bell six blocks.

Kirkwood (32-8) salvaged a split at the tournament in Boone with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-19 sweep of Marshalltown.

Bell provided 11 kills and four blocks. Wenzel and Poula had eight kills. Lueck dished out 32 more assists. Marisa Stark had 14 digs and Snyder 13 digs.

Kirkwood and DMACC both finished with 9-1 records in the ICCAC conference this season to tie for first place. Kirkwood won the head-to-head matchup.

Iowa Central clips Kirkwood, 3-2

Iowa Central grabbed a 2-0 lead and dropped the next two before taking the final game to down Kirkwood, 25-20, 27-25, 20-25, 17-25, 15-11 Wednesday night at Johnson Hall.

Kirkwood (31-7-1) was led on offense by Erin Wenzel with 18 kills while Heather Poula added 16. Halle Lueck chipped in with 51 assists.

Nicole Snyder led the defense with 25 digs and Kensley Heater added 21.

No. 9 Eagles win twice in volleyball

FORT DODGE - The ninth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles won both of their matches at the Iowa Central volleyball tournament Saturday.

Kirkwood (31-6) topped Fort Scott, 3-1, and blanked Southeast (Neb.), 3-0.

Heather Poula had 18 kills against Fort Scott. Erin Wenzel had 12 kills, Megan Allmandinger 11 kills and Becca Bell 10 kills. Halle Lueck contributed 44 assists and 12 digs.

Nicole Snyder had 24 digs, Kensley Heater 10 digs and Payton Hilton five blocks.

Lueck rolled up 33 assists and 10 digs against Southeast. Allmandinger and Reagan Menke had nine kills. Heater contributed 11 digs.

 

Kirkwood - Volleyball

No. 9 Eagles raise record to 29-6

FORT DODGE - The ninth-ranked Kirkwood volleyball team raised its record to 29-6 Friday with a pair of 3-0 victories at the Iowa Central tournament in Fort Dodge.

The Eagles swept Carl Sandberg, 25-9, 25-16, 25-19, and took care of Neosho, 25-16, 25-21, 25-17.

Halle Lueck furnished 30 assists and 11 digs against Carl Sandberg. Raegan Menke collected 10 kills. Erin Wenzel and Payton Hilton had seven kills. Becca Bell blocked five shots.

Lueck had 36 assists and 12 digs against Neosha. Wenzel picked up 13 kills. Megan Allmandinger had 10 kills, Nicole Snyder had 14 digs and Bell had five more blocks.
