Coe falls to Dubuque without Timm

Injuries are a tough part of sports, but it's too bad the Coe Kohawks cannot hit the rewind button and play Dubuque in the Iowa Conference men's basketball tournament with Jake Timm on the court.

The Kohawks lost to Dubuque, 71-59, in the semifinals of the IIAC tournament at Eby Fieldhouse Thursday night with their point guard and floor leader sitting at the end of the bench with a sprained ankle.

Timm averages 11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a ton of hustle for Coe. Other players tried admirably to fill the void, but the Kohawks were not the same club without him.

"It's a real tough break for us," said Coach Bryan Martin. "It's like losing an all-conference quarterback in football. It's the guy that runs everything."

Coe finished the season with a 16-10 record after tying Dubuque for second place in the regular-season standings. Dubuque (22-5) will host Wartburg (15-12) in the conference finals on Saturday.

Daoust hits winner as Coe upsets BV

Coe rallied from a 15-point deficit and upset Buena Vista, 69-67, on a jump shot by Matt Daoust with 3.3 seconds left Saturday in an Iowa Conference basketball game at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawks (16-9, 10-4) received a first-round bye in the Iowa Conference tournament this week and will host Dubuque or Luther in the semifinals Thursday at 7 p.m

Buena Vista won the regular-season title with an 11-3 record, topping Coe and Dubuque by one game in the final standings, but the Kohawks earned a ton of momentum with Saturday's clutch victory.

Buena Vista raced to a 40-25 lead late in the first half, but the Kohawks scored the last six points of the stanza to pull within 40-31 at intermission and give themselves a chance.

INDIANOLA - Matt Daoust scored a career-high 29 points as Coe outlasted Simpson, 81-74, in overtime on Wednesday night in Iowa Conference men's basketball action.

Simpson (6-19, 1-13 IIAC) was bent on upsetting the Kohawks, leading by as many as seven in the second half. The Storm had a shot to win in regulation, but a late shot attempt was off the mark, forcing overtime.

Coe (16-9, 10-4) took control in the extra session, outscoring Simpson, 11-4. Christian Fahey finished with 15 points for the Kohawks. JT Vonderhaar had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds before fouling out. Coe outrebounded Simpson, 47-26.
