Coe men trimmed by Dubuque Spartans

DUBUQUE - The Dubuque Spartans used a balanced attack to defeat Coe, 82-75, in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game at the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque Wednesday night.

Andre Norris and Kain Arthofer scored 15 points apiece for Dubuque (16-6, 9-2). Jacob Mohlis had 13 points, Deonte Newsome 12 and Alex Vogel 11 for the Spartans.

Matt Vonderhaar tossed in 24 points for Coe (8-14, 3-8). Marshall Shedeck collected a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Christian Fahey scored 13 points and Lincoln Vorba added 11 points for Coe.

Jake Timm had seven assists for the Kohawks and moved into fourth place in school history with 294. Vonderhaar made four 3-pointers and became the 14th player in school history with 100 triples.

Coe men top Wartburg in OT

The Coe men's basketball team outscored Wartburg 11-2 in overtime Saturday and claimed a 77-68 victory in an Iowa Conference game at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawks prevailed despite not scoring a single point in the final three minutes of the second half. The Kohawks took a 66-65 lead with 3:20 left in regulation on a free throw by Matt Meyer, but then both teams went into a scoring drought.

Wartburg tied the game, 66-66, on a free throw by Nate Woeste with 58 seconds left in the second half, but he missed his second free throw and the game was still tied when the horn sounded.

Trevor Haaland and Christian Fahey scored the first two baskets of overtime for Coe as the Kohawks grabbed a 70-66 advantage. Jaran Sabus made two free throws to pull Wartburg within 70-68 with 2:58 left, but the Kohawks blanked the Knights 7-0 the rest of the way on seven free throws.

Matt Vonderhaar scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack for Coe (8-13, 3-7). Meyer finished with 14 points and Fahey had 10. Vonderhaar grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Jake Timm collected eight points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Kohawks.

Jordan Cannon pumped in 23 points for Wartburg (12-9, 5-5).

Loras men hold off late Coe rush

Justin VanWambeke scored 29 points and Mirko Grcic added 20 as Loras held off a late comeback attempt to down Coe, 90-82, Wednesday in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game at Eby Fieldhouse.

Coe (7-13, 2-7) trailed by as many as 13 and was able to cut the margin to 86-82 on a Trevor Haaland 3-point basket with 18 seconds remaining, but wasn't able to draw any closer as Loras put the game away from the foul line.

Christian Fahey led Coe with 24 points. Matt Vonderhaar and Matt Meyer added 16 apiece.

Nolan Timp and Demond George each scored 10 points for the Duhawks (11-9, 6-3).

PELLA - Trashawn Boyd scored 20 points Saturday afternoon as Central dunked Coe, 84-63, in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game at Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella.

Colby Taylor had 16 points for Central (13-6, 4-4), Austin Glawe had 14 and Tate Handsaker added 12. Pete Walker grabbed 11 rebounds.

Matt Meyer scored 15 points for Coe (7-12, 2-6). Marshall Shedeck added 14 points.

WAVERLY - Clifton Brown led five players into double figures with 20 points Wednesday night as the Wartburg Knights dunked Coe, 93-70, in an Iowa Conference men's basketball game at Levick Arena in Waverly.

Nate Woeste scored 14 points for Wartburg (10-8, 3-4). Nick Webber and Jordan Cannon added 11 points apiece and Ty Putchio netted 10.

Matt Meyer popped in 23 points for the Kohawks (7-11, 2-5). Matt Vonderhaar added 18 points.
