Kohawk women fall to Simpson

INDIANOLA - Maddie Bosworth scored 18 points Saturday as Simpson defeated Coe, 77-68, in an Iowa Conference women's basketball game at the Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola.

Noreen Morrow had 16 points and Britney Boland added 13 for Simpson (14-9, 7-5).

Jordan Holmes led the Kohawks with 14 points and nine rebounds. Mickey Hansche scored 11 points and Aleena Hobbs had 10 points for Coe (13-10, 4-8).

Hobbs broke her own single-season school record with 115 made free throws.

COE (68): Stulken 2 2-3 6, Wirth 0 0-0 0, Hobbs 2 6-6 10, Hansche 4 1-1 11, Lehman 4 0-1 9, Holmes 6 0-0 14, Boltz 1 0-0 3, McCrary 3 2-2 9, Lehmann 3 0-0 6. Totals 25 11-13 68.

Coe women overtaken by Dubuque

DUBUQUE - The Coe women's basketball team led by as much as 15 points in the first half but wasn't able to hold on as Dubuque rallied for a 94-89 Iowa Conference win on Wednesday night at the Stoltz Sports Center.

Mickey Hansche led Coe (13-9, 4-7) with 26 points, including six 3-pointers. Hansche became the first player in Kohawk history to have at least 70 treys in multiple seasons. Allena Hobbs added 22 and Jenna Lehman had 20.

Allie Worth finished with 11 rebounds.

Emily Brinker led Dubuque (8-14, 3-8) with 29 points. Abbey Meyer added 20 points and seven rebounds

Coe women fall to Wartburg

The Coe women's basketball team struggled in the first half Saturday and lost to Wartburg, 62-53, in an Iowa Conference game at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawks scored only five points in the second quarter and trailed at halftime, 31-15. The Kohawks outscored the Knights 38-31 in the second half, but could not catch up.

Mickey Hansche led Coe with 16 points and was the only Kohawk to score in double figures. Aleena Hobbs was held to five points, but grabbed nine rebounds. Allie Wirth had 10 rebounds for Coe (13-8, 4-6).

Morgan Neuendorf scored 17 points for Wartburg (15-6, 5-5). Linn-Mar grads Katie Sommer, Aryn Jones and Kristie Sommer combined for 33 points for the Knights.

WARTBURG (62): Jones 4 4-5 12, Kristie Sommer 0 6-7 6, Murphy 0 4-6 4, Burrows 3 0-0 7, Katie Sommer 5 4-4 15, Murphy 0 0-0 0, Neuendorf 7 1-2 17, Haupert 0 1-2 1. Totals 19 20-26 62.

Loras downs Coe women, 72-57

Kaitlin Phillips scored 18 points and Kat Cabrera added 15 to lead Loras to a 72-57 Iowa Conference women's basketball win over Coe on Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawk struggled from long range, hitting just 6-of-24 from beyond the 3-point line. Aleena Hobbs led Coe (13-7, 4-5) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jenna Lehman added 10 points.

Loras (14-6, 7-2) hit 20-of-22 from the foul line, including a perfect 12-of-12 from Phillips. Lori Obendorf had 10 rebounds for the Duhawks

Hobbs sparks Coe women by Central

PELLA - Aleena Hobbs collected 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists Saturday as the Coe women's basketball team trimmed Central, 66-61, in an Iowa Conference game at Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella.

It was the 10th time this season that Hobbs has scored at least 20 points for the Kohawks (13-6, 4-4).

Coe trailed 61-60 entering the final minute Saturday. Hobbs made a layup, got fouled and finished the three-point play to give the Kohawks a 63-61 edge with 43 seconds to go.

Hobbs then stole the ball, got fouled and hit two more free throws for a 65-61 lead with 31 seconds remaining. Central (4-15, 1-7) committed two more turnovers and Courteney McCrary made one free throw for Coe to finish the scoring with five seconds left.

Mickey Hansche and Jenna Lehman both made four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for the Kohawks.

Claire Marburger poured in 27 points for Central.
