Faidley sets record for Coe swimmers

Corbin Faidley broke the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, but the Coe College men’s and women’s swimming teams each lost to Iowa Central Community College on Friday at Coe.

The Coe men lost 164-102, and the women lost 121-115.

Faidley won the 1,000 freestyle in 10 minutes, 51 seconds, beating his own school record by nearly 12 seconds for the Coe men.

Collin Flynn won the 200 backstroke in 2:02.47 for the fifth-best time in school history. Justin Sauter also won the 1- and 3-meter diving events and Andy Cheng took the 100 backstroke.

Ayaka Okamoto won the 50 freestyle in 24.40 seconds for the seventh-best time in school history to lead the Coe women. She also won the 200 backstroke.

Coe women take 6th at Grinnell swim

GRINNELL - The Coe women's swimming team finished sixth out of 13 teams at the Grinnell Invitational Saturday.

Sam Fitzgerald placed third for the Coe women Saturday in the 100 breaststroke.

The Coe men placed seventh out of eight teams.

Okamoto leads Coe swimmers at Grinnell

GRINNELL – The Coe College swimming teams competed in Day 1 of the Grinnell Invitational on Friday. The Coe women scored 203 points for fifth place and the Coe men scored 174 for seventh place.

Freshman Ayaka Okamoto took second place in the 100 backstroke in 58.68 seconds for the Coe women, just .04 seconds off the school record. She also took fourth in the 100 freestyle.

Alanna Thompson was fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.43 for the third-fastest time in school history.

Sam Fitzgerald finished fourth in the 200 breatstroke and ninth in the 200 individual medley for the Coe women.

Corbin Faidley finished 10th in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.20, the second best in school history, for the Coe men.

Coe - Women's Swimming

Coe swimmers sweep Kohawk Relays

The Coe swimming teams won both titles at the Kohawk Relays Saturday in their own pool.

Ayaka Okamoto was a triple-winner for the Coe women as they rolled up 620 points in a four-team meet. She captured the 100 back, 200 back and 100 butterfly.

Kate Appler took the 100 free, Alanna Thompson claimed the 50 free and Sam Fitzgerald won the 200 IM. The Kohawks also took the 400 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Collin Flynn was a triple-champ for the Coe men as they scored 779 points in a three-team meet. Flynn won the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM.

Coe - Women's Swimming

4 Kohawks honored by Iowa Conference

Coe swimmer Ayaka Okamoto has been named the Female Athlete of the Week in the Iowa Conference.

Okamoto, a freshman from Tokyo, won five events for the Kohawks in two meets last week. She set school records in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.

Farai Sewera was named the Wrestling Performer of the Week for winning the 165-pound title at the Luther Open Saturday. He dominated all five of his matches with two pins, a technical fall and two major decisions.

Brandon Abbas was named the Special Teams Performer of the Week in football. He was 7-for-7 on PATs and booted a career-best 42 yard field goal in a 52-14 victory over Buena Vista.

Collin Flynn was honored as the Performer of the Week in men's swimming. He won four events for the Kohawks last week.
