Sprinkel, Rodgers honored in IIAC tennis

Coe senior Noah Sprinkel has been named the Iowa Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year for the third year in a row and Coe’s Eric Rodgers has been named the 2015 IIAC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year.

Sprinkel was voted all-conference in both singles and doubles this season. He has a 31-11 record, including a 13-4 mark in singles despite playing only in the spring. Sprinkel will play in the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, next week.

Rodgers received IIAC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year honors for the seventh time and the fourth year in succession. He led Coe to a 21-7 record overall and a 7-0 mark in the league, winning the school’s 10th Iowa Conference title.

The IIAC also announced the 2015 All-Iowa Conference Men’s Tennis Team. Sixteen individuals were selected to fill the 12 singles and 12 doubles positions with Coe’s Sprinkel, Riley Galbraith, Ryan Hickman, Brady Anderson and Alex Bernt honored.

Marion High School grad Brandon Hornback made the all-conference team in doubles for Wartburg.

Chad Moklestad and Zack Decker of Coe received honorable mention. Kennedy grad Jimmy Cunningham received honorable mention for Central College.

Coe men roll in NCAA tennis opener

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Noah Sprinkel defeated Elliott Czarnecki, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles Friday as the Coe men's tennis team topped Grinnell 5-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III regional tournament.

The Kohawks (21-6) will face the eighth-ranked University of Chicago team Saturday at 1 p.m. in the second round.

Brady Anderson and Ryan Hickman also won their singles matches for Coe Friday. The other three singles contests were not finished after the Kohawks clinched the meet.

Sprinkel picked for NCAA tennis tourney

Coe College senior Noah Sprinkel has been selected to play in the NCAA Division III national tennis tournament for the third straight year.

Sprinkel will join a select field of 32 players for the national tournament at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, on May 21-23.

Sprinkel, from Minneapolis, lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year.

Sprinkel and the Kohawks are competing in the NCAA regional team tournament in Whitewater, Wis., this weekend.

Coe tennis teams head to NCAA meets

The Coe College tennis teams are going to NCAA regional tournaments this week after winning Iowa Conference titles.

The Coe men are headed to Whitewater, Wis., and the Coe women are going to Greencastle, Ind.

The 36th-ranked Coe men (20-6) will face Grinnell (28-10) in the opening round Friday. Coe beat the Pioneers, 7-2, in early April. This will be the 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Kohawks and fourth straight.

The Coe women (21-6) will face Ohio Northern (20-3) in the first round Thursday. This is the sixth appearance in the NCAA's for the Kohawks and fourth in a row.

Anderson helps Coe net NCAA berth

Brady Anderson enjoyed a productive day Saturday and helped the Coe men's tennis team earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament.

The Kohawks topped Luther, 5-1, in the Iowa Conference finals to clinch their spot in the NCAA meet. The Kohawks also defeated Wartburg, 5-0, in the semifinals.

Anderson, a freshman from Linn-Mar, won both of his matches at No. 3 singles in straight sets. He also teamed with Riley Galbraith, a Kennedy grad, to win both of their matches at No. 1 doubles.

The Kohawks will take a 20-6 record into the NCAA tournament. Their opponent and location will be announced Monday.
