Hawkins, Yunek lead Coe at IIAC track

INDIANOLA - Chris Hawkins and Daniel Yunek of Coe earned second-place finishes at the Iowa Conference track meet Friday in Indianola.

Hawkins placed second in the long jump at 22 feet, 1/4 inch. Yunek was the runner-up in the hammer throw at 172 feet, 4 inches.

The Coe men are in fifth place in the team standings. The Coe women are in eighth place. The meet ends Saturday.

Kohawks win 3 events in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Coe captured three events at the Dubuque Invitational track meet Friday.

Chris Hawkins soared to victory in the long jump at 23 feet, 1/2 inch. Robbie Peters captured the shot put at 43 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

Sammie Osterberger claimed a victory for the Coe women in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.16.

Mosbach wins 2 events at Loras Open

DUBUQUE - Liz Mosbach of Mount Mercy won two events at the Dr. Tucker Loras Open track meet Saturday in Dubuque.

Mosbach captured the 800 in 2:20.39 and claimed the long jump at 17-9 3/4. Jade Gridiron won the 100 meter dash for the Mustangs in 12.66 seconds.

Coe won four events at the meet. Erik Franklin took the 200 (22.12), Beau Freeborn captured the 800 (1:56.32) and Chris Hawkins won the long jump (22-7 1/4) for the Coe men. Melissa Alger took the discus (149-5) for the Coe women.

Franklin, Alger lead Coe track teams

PELLA - Erik Franklin and Melissa Alger of Coe enjoyed successful days at the Dutch Triangular track meet in Pella Saturday.

Franklin won the 200 meter dash in 22.12 seconds and ran on the triumphant 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Alger captured the shot put (11.52 meters) and discus (47.35 meters).

The Coe women got victories from Sammie Osterberger in the 400 hurdles (1:07.50), Laura Bybee in the pole vault (3.10 meters) and Nicole Gentile in the javelin (30.28 meters).

Daniel Yunek claimed the hammer throw (50.55) for the Kohawks. Anton Jones, Gicard Philizaire and Clayton Birkes ran on the 4x100 relay with Franklin. Jones, Birkes and Beau Freeborn joined Franklin on the 4x400 relay.

Central won the men's and women's titles. Coe finished third in both divisions.

Coe clinches Bremner Cup with Cornell

MOUNT VERNON - The Coe men's track team won the Cornell Open Saturday and clinched the 2014-15 Bremner Cup All-Sports Series against Cornell.

Erik Franklin captured the long jump for the Kohawks at 19 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Coe edged Southwestern Community College for the title, 155-150.

The Coe women's track team finished second in their division behind Cornell. Sammie Osterberger (100 hurdles), Laura Bybee (pole vault) and Kenzie Drahn (triple jump) won events for Coe.

The Kohawks also captured the 4x100 relay with Amanda Brummet, Cassie Hocker, Allie Osterberger and Sammie Osterberger.
