Hawkins shines at IIAC track meet

STORM LAKE - Chris Hawkins of Coe captured the long jump and triple jump at the Iowa Conference indoor track meet Saturday in Storm Lake.

Hawkins sailed 23 feet, 1 3/4 inches in the long jump and went 46-1 1/4 in the triple jump.

The Kohawks captured the 4x800 relay with Ben Nelson, Dray Schreider, Ryan Izer and Beau Freeborn clocked in 7 minutes, 56.4 seconds.

Robbie Peters finished third in the shot put (48-0 3/4) and third in the weight throw (54-3 3/4).

Central won the men's title with 148 points. Coe placed sixth with 65 points.

Wartburg captured the women's title. Coe did not have any top-3 finishers and finished last in eighth place with 26 points.

Hawkins wins IIAC long jump for Coe

STORM LAKE – Chris Hawkins won the men’s long jump with the ninth-best leap in the nation to lead Coe during the first day of competition at the Iowa Conference Indoor Track Championships on Friday at Dennis Young Fieldhouse at Buena Vista University.

The Coe men scored 26 points for fifth place after Day 1 and the Coe women scored 13 points for eighth place.

Hawkins won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 1 3/4 inches and also took sixth place in the 60-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 33.14 seconds. Robbie Peters was third in the shot put at 48-3/4 and Alex McKee-Crow was fifth at 46-4.

Laura Bybee led the Coe women with a fourth-place showing in the pole vault with a leap of 10-4 1/4.

The meet continues Saturday.

Coe - Men's Track

Kohawks, Mustangs shine at Wartburg

WAVERLY – The Coe men's track team won four events and the Mount Mercy women won two at the Wartburg Indoor Invitational on Saturday at Hoover Field House.

Robbie Peters and Alex Crow-McKee placed first and second in the shot put for the Coe men with throws of 14.57 and 13.86 meters, respectively. Ben Nelson won the 800 meters in 1 minute, 57.91 seconds, Chris Hawkins won the 60 hurdles in 8.69 seconds, and the team of Erik Franklin, Anton Jones, Max Johnson and Demetrius Harper won the 4x200 in 1:33.58.

Colton Forster was second in the 3,000 for the Mount Mercy men in 8:54.23, and the Mustangs placed third in the 4x200 in 1:35.59.

Molly Pruett won the 3,000 for the Mount Mercy women in 10:55.12, and the 4x200 relay team of Receva Duos, Aminah Baloch, Ashli O’Shea and Raeshonda Chandler won in 1:49.73.

Laura Bybee and Christina Brown took first and second place in the pole vault for the Coe women with leaps of 3.12 and 2.97 meters, respectively. Bri’anna Branch took second in the 60 in 8.04.

Hawkins wins long jump for Kohawks

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Chris Hawkins of Coe won the long jump at the Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational Saturday with a leap of 6.55 meters.

Sammie Osterberger set a school record for the Kohawks when she placed second in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.29 seconds. Osterberger also finished third in the 200 meter dash (27.24) and Laura Bybee placed third in the pole vault (3.17 meters).

Robbie Peters set a school record for Coe when he finished third in the men's weight throw (16.91 meters).

No team scores were kept.

Hawkins, Branch win at Grinnell track

GRINNELL - Chris Hawkins of Coe and Bri'anna Branch of Mount Mercy won titles at the Grinnell Invitational track meet Saturday.

Hawkins claimed the men's long jump at 22 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Branch captured the women's 60-meter dash in 8.05 seconds.

Laura Bybee of Coe placed second in the pole vault at 10 feet. The Coe women got third-place showings from Cassie Hocker in the 60 meter dash (8.16), Sammi Osterberger in the 200 (27.40) and Osterberger in the 60 hurdles (9.52).

The Coe men received third-place performances from Hawkins in the 60 hurdles (8.68), Beau Freeborn in the 800 (1:58.01) and Erik Franklin in the long jump (21-3 1/2).

The Mount Mercy women finished seventh in the team standings and the Coe women were eighth.

The Coe men placed sixth and the Mount Mercy men were 15th.

Grand View won the women's title and Simpson captured the men's crown.
