Hawkins sets Coe record in long jump

WAVERLY - Coe freshman Chris Hawkins broke the school record in the long jump Friday when he flew 23 feet, 6 3/4 inches at the Iowa Conference indoor track meet in Waverly.

Hawkins snapped the school mark that had stood since 1977. He finished second in the long jump Friday behind Eric Larson of Central, who went 23-7 1/2.

Erik Franklin of Coe placed third in the long jump at 22-6 1/4. Laura Bybee placed third in the pole vault at 10 feet, 2 1/2 inch.

The Coe men are in fourth place in the eight-team standings with 31 points heading into Day 2 of the conference meet on Saturday. The Coe women are in sixth place with 13 points. Wartburg has the lead in both meets.

Coe, Mount Mercy win titles in Waverly

WAVERLY - The Coe track teams won three events at the Wartburg Invitational track meet Saturday in Waverly.

Jacob Johnson won the men's pole vault at 11 feet, 11 3/4 inches and Laura Bybee captured the women's pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches. Chris Hawkins claimed the men's 60 meter hurdles in 8.45 seconds.

Nicole Sanborn of Mount Mercy won the women's long jump at 17 feet, 2 3/4 inches.

Coe collected second-place showings from Sammie Osterberger in the women's 60 hurdles (9.41) and Derek Ross in the men's long jump (21-0 1/2). The Kohawks got third-place finishes from Jessica Harris in the high jump (4-11), Erik Franklin in the 200 meter dash (23.09), Hawkins in the triple jump (45-4 1/4) and Alex Deeds in the men's shot put (46-4 1/4).

Coe - Women's Track

Coe women win relay at Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Coe College women’s track team won the distance medley relay and placed third in the 4x400-meter relay in the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday at Williams Fieldhouse.

Team scores were not recorded.

The team of Katie Guinane, Maddie Bain, Amanda Donovan and Allison Rogers won the distance medley in 14 minutes, 41.01 second. Amanda Brummet, Sara Bechard, Allie Osterberger and Sammie Osterberger were third in the 4x400 in 4:14.63.

The Coe men had two second-place finishers. Chris Hawkins was second in the long jump at 7.02 meters and Erik Franklin was second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.48.

Other top finishers for the Coe women included Kenzie Drahn (fourth in the triple jump at 10.63 meters), Allie Osterberger (fifth in the 60 hurdles in 9.84), Laura Bybee (fifth in the pole vault at 2.96 meters), Jessica Harris (sixth in the high jump at 1.50 meters) and Amanda Skarban (sixth in the shot put at 10.92 meters).

Chris Hawkins was third in the 60 hurdles for the Coe men in 8.51. Franklin, Anton Jones, Dray Schreiber and Beau Freeborn were fourth in the 4x400 in 3.31.76. Alex Deeds was seventh in the shot put at 13.79 meters, Derek Ross was seventh in the high jump at 1.75 meters, Freeborn was seventh in the 800 in 1:58.88 and Austin Springsteen was eighth in the mile at 4:26.

Coe wins 3 events at Grinnell track

GRINNELL - Beau Freeborn and Chris Hawkins won titles for the Coe men's track team at the Grinnell Invitational Saturday.

Freeborn claimed the 800 meter run in 1:56.46 and Hawkins took the 60 meter hurdles in 8.43 seconds.

Sara Bechard, Amanda Brummet, Allie Osterberger and Sammie Osterberger captured the 4x200 relay for the Coe women's team in 1;52.17.

Hawkins placed second in the triple jump (44-9.75), Austin Springsteen ran second in the mile (4:19.04) and Nathan Haerr finished third in the 3000 meter run (9:36.64).

Bechard placed second in the 200 meter run (27.23) and Laura Bybee took third in the pole vault (10 feet).

The Coe men finished sixth out of 12 teams. The Coe women placed ninth out of 11 teams.

Hawkins leads Coe track to win

MOUNT VERNON – The Coe College men’s track team took first place with 151 points at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday at the Richard and Norma Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Coe men won with 151 points, while the Coe women tied for third with 81.

Chris Hawkins won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.43 seconds and the long jump with a leap up 22-feet, 5-inches for the Kohawks. Nathan Haerr won the 5,000 meters for the Kohawks, finishing in 17 minutes, 25.73 seconds. Erik Franklin won the triple jump at 41-10.

Austin Springsteen was second in the mile (4:33.40) and the 3,000 (9:31.50).
