Mustang baseball gets first win

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Mount Mercy baseball team broke into the victory  column Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Park University in Arizona.

Lyle Fini collected a two-run double in the fifth inning to give the  Mustangs a 2-0 lead and the Mount Mercy pitchers made it hold up.

Tanner Lohaus pitched the first five innings, allowing one run on  three hits. Blake Willenborg tossed three scoreless innings in relief  and Skylar Freese notched two strikeouts in the ninth inning for the  save as the Mustangs raised their record to 1-6. The three pitchers  allowed only five hits.

Mount Mercy - Baseball

Mount Mercy baseball drops to 0-5

MESA, Ariz. - The Mount Mercy baseball team has begun the 2020  campaign with five straight losses after falling to Benedictine of  Arizona, 8-4, Wednesday in Arizona.

Cael Lambe went 3-for-5 for the Mustangs.

Collin Shrader, Austin  Hilpipre and Trey Roberson had two hits for Mount Mercy.

Mount Mercy baseball swept again

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The Mount Mercy baseball team has gotten off to a  slow with the bats this season.

The Mustangs lost to Texas A&M-Texarkana, 8-0, and were trimmed by the  College of the Ozarks, 4-3, Saturday on their swing through Missouri.

Mount Mercy fell to 0-4 for the young campaign, with three of the  losses by shutout. The Mustangs have scored three runs in four games.

Mount Mercy owned a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh  inning against the College of the Ozarks, but Ozarks rallied for three  runs for the victory.

Mount Mercy baseball drops pair

The Mount Mercy baseball collected only three hits in a pair of  ballgames Friday and was blanked both times on its trip to Missouri.

The Mustangs lost to the College of the Ozarks, 6-0, and fell to Texas  A&M-Texarkana, 11-0, failing to score in either game.

Mount Mercy hitters went 3-for-42 in the two games.

Mustangs denied trip to nationals

OZARK, Mo. - The Mount Mercy baseball team came within two outs of  earning a trip to the NAIA national tournament Monday.

The Mustangs held a 3-1 lead over Clarke University with two outs in  the bottom of the ninth, needing a victory in the losers bracket final  of the Heart of America Conference tournament to automatically qualify  for nationals.

Unfortunately for Mount Mercy, the Pride rallied for two runs in the  bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game 3-3 and force extra  innings. Clarke broke the deadlock by scoring in the bottom of the  12th for a 4-3 verdict.

Baker blasted Clarke, 16-3, in the first championship game to win the  conference tournament. Baker and Clarke now advance to the NAIA  tournament as the conference tournament champion and runnerup, while  Mount Mercy finishes one win short at 29-23.

Mount Mercy compiled a 4-2 record in the tournament and staved off  three straight elimination games.
