Mount Mercy women reach semifinals

Mount Mercy finished the first half with a 12-0 run Thursday night and defeated Viterbo, 64-52, in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference women's basketball tournament at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs (18-13) will play at St. Ambrose in the semifinals Saturday at 2 p.m.

Mount Mercy was clinging to a 25-23 in the first half when they caught fire and scored 12 straight points for a 37-23 cushion at intermission. Danielle Herdliska and Ashley Dolan scored five points apiece during the decisive spurt.

The Mustangs opened a 43-27 lead in the second half and won comfortably.

Mount Mercy - Women's Basketball

Herb nets 30 as Mustangs belt GV

Abbie Herb poured in 30 points in 24 minutes Saturday as Mount Mercy belted Grand View, 76-56, in the final game of the regular season at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs denied Grand View from claiming the outright regular-season title in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. Grand View tied for first place with St. Ambrose with 9-3 records, while Mount Mercy tied Clarke for third place at 8-4.

Herb shot 11-for-19 from the field and was 7-for-9 at the foul line with one 3-pointer. The Cedar Rapids Washington graduate also grabbed eight rebounds and had three assists.

St. Ambrose downs Mustang women

DAVENPORT - Cold shooting plagued Mount Mercy all night long as St. Ambrose rolled to a 73-51 Midwest Collegiate Conference win Wednesday night at the Lee Lohman Arena.

Sydney Greiner led the Bees (18-7, 9-2) with 18 points. Katie Jensen added 16. The win moved St. Ambrose into a tie with Grand View for the conference lead.

Abby Herb led the Mustangs (16-13, 7-4). Mount Mercy shot just 28 percent from the field, including 3-of-25 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Herb, Zeitler lead Mount Mercy women

DES MOINES – Abby Herb and Makenzie Zeitler each had double-doubles for the Mount Mercy women’s basketball team in a 76-63 win over AIB College of Business on Saturday at AIB.

Herb scored 20 points with 13 rebounds and Zeitler had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Callan Timms added 14 points and Alisa Weiland dished out six assists.

Gelina Webb scored 20 points for the Eagles. Jessica Davis scored 16 points and Mary Mack had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Mount Mercy improved to 16-12 overall and 7-3 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. AIB fell to 5-22 and 0-11.

Mustang women topple Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Mount Mercy jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back Wednesday night en route to a 78-68 Midwest Conference win over Viterbo.

Christa Oldham led the Mustangs (15-12, 5-3 MCC) with 31 points, including 17-of-20 from the foul line. Makenzie Zeitler added 13 and Danielle Herdliska had 12. The win avenged an earlier 76-71 loss to Viterbo last month in Cedar Rapids.

Jenna Engh, who had 36 points in the earlier win over the Mustangs, had another strong outing for the Hawks (7-20, 3-6), finishing with 37 points.
