Mount Mercy - Women's Basketball

Grand View tops Mount Mercy women

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team lost to Grand View, 82-66, in  a Heart of America Conference game at the Hennessey Recreation Center  Monday night.

The Mustangs fell to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Grand View  raised its records to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Sofia Popp led Mount Mercy with 20 points and seven rebounds. Brianna  Thomas scored 17 points and Taseandra Parker chipped in with 11.  Kyleigh Milan grabbed seven rebounds and Paris Sheck had five assists.

Shannon Pisney led Grand View with 20 points and nine rebounds. Mia  Rosener had 12 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. Casey Carr  scored 14 points for the Vikings, Brianda Bane 13 and Brooke Trautsch  12.

Popp's clutch '3' lifts Mustangs

LAMONI - Sofia Popp hit a clutch 3-pointer with two seconds remaining Tuesday night to snap a 79-79 tie and give the Mount Mercy women's basketball team an 82-79 victory over Graceland in a Heart of America Conference game in Lamoni.

Mount Mercy led by 16 points with 9:45 remaining, but Graceland rallied and took a 77-76 lead with 1:13 left with a 24-7 run. The Mustangs responded, however, and claimed their first victory in the league this season when Popp delivered to avoid overtime.

Abbi Kinnaird tossed in seven 3-pointers and led Mount Mercy with 24 points. Popp finished with 21 points and Chailey Cabalis added 14 for the Mustangs (2-4, 1-2). Popp made 11 of 12 free throws and had six steals, five rebounds and four assists. Paris Sheck had five assists.

Kailey Boden scored 20 points for Graceland (2-7, 0-4).

Popp paces Mustangs in setback

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team lost to Benedictine, 84-69, in a Heart of America Conference game Saturday at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Sofia Popp scored 23 points for the Mustangs, who fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the league. Abbi Kinnaird added 12 points for Mount Mercy.

Skyler Washington scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack for Benedictine (7-1, 2-1).

Mount Mercy women fall to Evangel

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team put up a good fight in the  first half Saturday, but the second half belonged entirely to Evangel.

Evangel blistered the Mustangs by 24 points in the second half for a  77-56 victory in the Heart of America Conference opener at the  Hennessey Recreation Center.

Mount Mercy led 31-28 at halftime, but the visitors owned the second  half 49-25.

Brianna Thomas scored 13 points for Mount Mercy (1-3, 0-1). Kyleigh  Milan added 10 points. Sofia Popp collected five assists and Taseandra  Parker grabbed seven rebounds.

Brianna Vogts scored 22 points for Evangel (2-2, 1-0).

Mount Mercy - Women's Basketball

Popp sparks Mount Mercy to victory

Freshman Sophia Popp tossed in 24 points Saturday to help the Mount  Mercy women's basketball team defeat St. Ambrose, 85-77, at the  Hennessey Recreation Center for their first victory of the season.

Popp also contributed five assists, four steals and four rebounds  while playing 36 1/2 minutes.

Brianna Thomas contributed 17 points and five rebounds for the  Mustangs. Sarah Moffett pitched in with 10 points and six rebounds.
