Mount Mercy women finish 5-25

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team finished the season on  Saturday with a 68-52 loss to Central Methodist in a Heart of America  Conference game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs ended the campaign at 5-25 overall and 1-23 in the  league. Mount Mercy finished 13th out of 13 teams in the conference  and did not make the league playoffs.

Sara Blowers led the Mustangs with 13 points. Audrey Mulumba had eight  rebounds.

Mount Mercy - Women's Basketball

Mustang women pounded by Penn

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team was drubbed by 14th-ranked  William Penn, 83-41, in a Heart of America Conference game at the  Hennessey Recreation Center Wednesday night.

The Mustangs fell to 5-24 overall and 1-22 in the league, clinching 13th and last place in the conference.

Sharice Kawakami led Mount Mercy with eight points. The Mustangs shot  18 for 66 for 27.3 percent and were pounded on the backboards, 53-27.

William Penn raised its records to 26-2 overall and 21-2 in the  conference, clinching at least a tie for the conference title with one game left in the regular season.

Mount Mercy - Women's Basketball

Mount Mercy women fall again

PERU, Neb. - The Mount Mercy women's basketball team lost a 13-point lead and lost another game Saturday.

Peru State topped the Mustangs, 69-59, in a meeting between the teams at the bottom of the Heart of America Conference standings.

Mount Mercy took a 45-32 lead with 5:47 left in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Sharice Kawakami, but Peru State outscored the visitors 37-14 the rest of the way.

Audrey Mulumba had 13 points and nine rebounds for Mount Mercy (5-23, 1-21).

Mount Mercy - Women's Basketball

Kawakami nets 38 for Mustangs

DES MOINES - Sharice Kawakami poured in 38 points for the Mount Mercy Mustangs Wednesday night, but it wasn't good enough.

Grand View topped the Mustangs, 83-74, in a Heart of America Conference game in Des Moines.

Kawakami, a senior from Honolulu, shot 12 for 16 from the field, including 5 of 7 on 3-pointers. She also went 9 for 10 at the foul line and complemented her career night with four assists and three steals.

The 38 points tied for the fourth-most in school history, matching a performance by Anne Dolan in 1976. Marci Clayton owns the school record with 47 points in 2004.

Audrey Mulumba scored 12 points for Mount Mercy (5-22, 1-20) and Aaliyah Brown contributed 11 points.

Mustang women trimmed by Evangel

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team was outscored 22-4 in the first quarter Saturday and never fully recovered.

Evangel clipped the Mustangs, 60-55, in a Heart of America Conference game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Mount Mercy fell to 5-21 overall and 1-19 in the conference. Evangel raised its records to 15-10 overall and 10-10 in the league.

Sara Blowers and Aurianna Hampton scored 13 points apiece for Mount Mercy. Blowers hit four 3-pointers. Audrey Mulumba snared 16 rebounds.

Mount Mercy committed 26 turnovers and was 9 for 19 at the foul line in the five-point setback.
