Mount Mercy men blank Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Jamesser Minthor and Filip Kovacevic scored goalsĀ Saturday as the Mount Mercy men's soccer team blanked Viterbo, 2-0, in La Crosse, Wis.

Minthor collected his sixth goal of the season in the 12th minute of the match with an assist from Eric Pfau. Kovacevic connected in the 22nd minute with an assist from Jamie Booth.

Tomas Zajfert made three saves in goal for the shutout.

Mount Mercy raised its record to 11-3. Viterbo fell to 5-8-1.

No. 14 Ashford stops Mount Mercy

CLINTON - The 14th-ranked Ashford men's soccer team jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first half Wednesday night and defeated Mount Mercy, 4-1, in Clinton.

Mount Mercy, which had won 10 straight games, fell to 10-3 for the season. Ashford raised its record to 8-3-1.

Marco Fichtner scored for the Mustangs in the 71st minute with an assist from Filip Kovacevic.

Mustangs win 10th straight match

DUBUQUE - Six players scored goals Saturday as the Mount Mercy men'sĀ soccer team won its 10th straight match with a 6-1 victory over Clarke in Dubuque.

Mohamed Hamed, Kevon Farquharson, Filip Kovacevic and Marco Fichtner scored in the first half to give the Mustangs a 4-0 lead at intermission. Masine Zakaria and Stefan Arsenovic tallied in the second half to finish the victory.

Fichtner collected two assists for Mount Mercy. Farquharson, Kovacevic, Jamie Booth and Yinka Ajibola also had assists. Tomas Zajfert made four saves in goal for the Mustangs.

Mount Mercy began the season with two straight losses, but the Mustangs have won all of their matches since then for a 10-2 mark.

Mustangs blank Briar Cliff, 2-0

Mohamed Hamed and Jamie Booth each scored a goal and Tomas Zajfert had a shutout in goal as Mount Mercy downed Briar Cliff, 2-0, in men's soccer Sunday at Heco Field.

Filip Kovacevic and Marco Fichtner had the assists for the Mustangs, who have won eight straight since starting the season 0-2.

Former Linn-Mar all-state goalie Jared Belin was in net for Briar Cliff. He made seven saves as the Chargers dropped to 3-3 on the season.

Minthor leads Mustangs to soccer win

Jamesser Minthor scored a pair of second-half goals and assisted on another at Mount Mercy downed St. Francis, 4-1, in men's soccer action Wednesday at Heco Field.

Yinka Ajibola score the first Mount Mercy goal in the eighth minute. St. Francis tied the score six minutes later but Eike Sturmeit's unassited tally just before halftime put the Mustangs (5-2) ahead to stay.

Minthor's goals came during a five-minute span midway through the second half.

St. Francis is 2-3.
