Mount Mercy - Men's Soccer

Mount Mercy pinned by Penn

OSKALOOSA - The Mount Mercy men's and women's soccer teams were  trimmed by William Penn in Heart of America Conference matches in  Oskaloosa Wednesday.

The Mount Mercy women were denied, 3-2, when William Penn scored the  game-winning goal in the 89th minute of regulation.

The Mount Mercy men fell, 2-1, after taking an early 1-0 lead in the  eighth minute.

Andrea Lopez scored for the Mount Mercy women with an assist from  Carly Walker in the 28th minute to tie their match, 1-1. William Penn  took a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute, but Holli Jones countered for the  Mustangs with an assist from Lopez to square the match at 2-2 less  than a minute later.

The women's game stayed tied for another 38 minutes before Penn prevailed.

Mount Mercy - Men's Soccer

Mustangs battle for 1-1 draw in 2 OTs

BENEDICTINE, Kan. - The Mount Mercy and Benedictine men's soccer teams  battled for as long as they could under NAIA rules, but it was not  long enough to determine a winner.

Mount Mercy and Benedictine fought to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime  Saturday in a Heart of America Conference marathon in Kansas.

Mount Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute of the second half on a  goal by Rafael Passanha on an assist from Nikola Petrovic. Benedictine  countered in the 72nd minute on a goal by Girma Kassa and nobody  scored again in regulation, the first overtime or second OT.

The result left the Mustangs at 6-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the  conference. Benedictine is 5-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.

Mount Mercy - Men's Soccer

No. 1 NAIA team boots Mustangs

The Mount Mercy men's and women's soccer teams had a tough time  Saturday against Central Methodist, which has one of the premier NAIA soccer programs in the country.

The Central Methodist men, who are ranked No. 1 in the nation, blanked  the Mustangs 2-0 and allowed only one shot on goal.

The Central Methodist women, who are ranked No. 20, stuffed the  Mustangs 4-0 and did not allow a single shot on goal.

The Mount Mercy men fell to 6-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Heart of America Conference. Central Methodist raised its records to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Mount Mercy - Men's Soccer

Mount Mercy boots Culver-Stockton in OT

CANTON, Mo. - Nikola Petrovic scored on a header in overtime Wednesday  to give the Mount Mercy men's soccer team a 3-2 victory over  Culver-Stockton in a Heart of America Conference match.

Kevin Kastl collected the assist on Petrovic's goal, which came in the  99th minute of the contest.

Culver-Stockton scored in the second minute of the match for a quick  1-0 lead for the only goal of the first half.

Will Hanigan tied the match for Mount Mercy in the 53rd minute of the  second half with an assist from Jonathan Scholes. Jose Leite gave the  Mustangs a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute with an assist from Kastl on a  corner kick, but Culver-Stockton tied the match 2-2 in the 72nd minute  to force overtime.

Bozkan helps Mustangs boot Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Oguzhan Bozkan scored an unassisted goal in the  79th minute Saturday to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Mount Mercy men's  soccer team a 2-1 victory over Evangel in a Heart of America  Conference match in Missouri.

Evangel scored the first goal in the first half, but Rafael Passanha  tied the match for the Mustangs in the 51st minute with an assist from  Kevin Kastl.

Dane Lee made five saves for Mount Mercy.
