Mount Mercy men fall in 2 OTs

David Hillmann scored an unassisted goal in the 104th minute of the match Tuesday afternoon to give Central Methodist a 2-1 victory over Mount Mercy in double-overtime at Xavier High School.

Hillmann gave Central Methodist a quick 1-0 lead with a goal in the fourth minute, but Yinka Ajibola countered for Mount Mercy with an assist from Marco Fichtner to tie the match 1-1 in the 56th minute.

The game remained tied for another 48 minutes before Hillmann struck again.

The match at Heco Field was the season-opener for Mount Mercy.

St. Ambrose ends Mustangs season in shootout

DAVENPORT - Mount Mercy scored a late goal in regulation to tie the match, but couldn't break through in overtime and eventually lost in a shootout, falling 2-1 to St. Ambrose in the semifinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament on Sunday.

St. Ambrose got the lead in the second half but the Mustangs tied the score on a goal from Yinku Ajibola with 10 minutes remaining.

The Bees, who will meet Grand View for the tournament title on Thursday, won the shootout, 4-2.

Mount Mercy closes at 11-6-2.

Mount Mercy men win wild shootout

OSKALOOSA - The Mount Mercy Mustangs defeated William Penn, 2-1, in a marathon shootout in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference men's soccer tournament Sunday.

The Mustangs won the shootout, 12-11, and will face St. Ambrose in the conference semifinals next Sunday.

Marco Fichtner gave Mount Mercy a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute with an unassisted goal. William Penn tied the match, 1-1, on a goal by Ralph Duopu-Turner in the 88th minute.

The shootout was tied, 11-11, after 12 shooters. William Penn's 13th man went first and was unable to connect, and Mount Mercy won the match when its 13th man found the goal.

Mount Mercy raised its record to 11-6-2. William Penn finished the season at 7-7-4.

Goar Kempf-Heitlinger made 10 saves during regulation time for the Mustangs.

Mustangs tie Penn in 2 OTs

OSKALOOSA - The Mount Mercy men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with William Penn in double-overtime Saturday in a Midwest Collegiate Conference match in Oskaloosa.

William Penn (7-7-3, 2-1-3) scored in the fifth minute of the game, but the Mustangs (11-6-1, 2-3-1) responded in the 13th minute on a goal by Jamie Booth and an assist from Kevon Farquharson.

They played for a long time after that, but nobody scored again.

Goar Kempf-Heitlinger made 10 saves for Mount Mercy.

Farquaharson nets 7 goals for Mustangs

OMAHA, Neb. - Kevon Farquaharson poured in seven goals Monday as Mount Mercy overwhelmed Grace, 17-0, in a men's soccer match at Tranquility Park in Omaha.

Farquaharson has scored 18 goals in 17 games for the Mustangs (11-6).

Hieu Ngo collected three goals for Mount Mercy in the game. Jamie Booth scored twice. Yinka Ajibola, Mohamed Hamed, Jordan Torquato, Wyatt Cady and Haris Hadzalic also tallied for the Mustangs.

Hamed had four assists and Ajibola had three assists.

Grace fell to 1-15.
