Mount Mercy soccer swept by AIB

DES MOINES - The Mount Mercy soccer teams lost a pair of matches to AIB in Des Moines Saturday.

The Mount Mercy men's team lost, 2-1. The Mustangs fell behind 2-0 and finally scored in the 82nd minute on a goal by Fergus O'Connor, but the Mustangs (10-6, 2-3) could not get the equalizer. Ngo Hieu collected an assist on O'Connor's goal.

The Mount Mercy women's team fell to AIB, 6-1. Aminah Baloch had an unassisted goal for the Mustangs (7-6-1, 0-4-1).

Fichtner leads Mount Mercy past Hawks

Marco Fichtner scored two goals and added two assists as Mount Mercy rolled to a 5-0 Midwest Collegiate Conference win over Viterbo Wednesday afternoon at Kingston Stadium.

He assisted on first-half goals by Marko Govedarica and Jamie Booth, then scored twice in a six-minute span that saw the Mustangs hit the net three times. Kevon Farquharson scored in between Fichtner's two tallies.

The Mustangs move to 10-5 overall, 2-2 in the MCC. Viterbo falls to 1-13, 0-4.

No.8 Ashford blanks Mount Mercy men

The Mount Mercy men's soccer team was shut out by eighth-ranked Ashford, 1-0, in an NAIA match at Lower Kingston Field Saturday.

Adam Wood scored the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.

Mount Mercy (9-5) was able to launch only four shots all day and none of them forced the Ashford goalkeeper to make a save. Ashford raised its record to 7-1-3.

Tough day for Mount Mercy soccer teams

DAVENPORT - The Mount Mercy University soccer teams suffered a pair of lopsided losses to St. Ambrose at the Davenport Soccer Complex Tuesday.

St. Ambrose defeated the Mount Mercy women, 6-1, and topped the Mount Mercy men, 6-0.

Danielle Herdliska scored the only goal of the day for the Mustangs. Taylor Eaker had the assist.

The Mount Mercy women fell to 7-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. The Mount Mercy men fell to 9-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Mount Mercy - Men's Soccer

Unlucky Mustangs fall to Grand View

The Mount Mercy Mustangs accidentally knocked the ball into their own goal Saturday and lost to seventh-ranked Grand View, 1-0, in a men's soccer match at the Lower Kingston Field.

The only score of the contest came at the 18:11 mark of the first half.

Mount Mercy fell to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. Grand View raised its records to 9-1-1 and 2-0.

Grand View out-shot the Mustangs, 13-6.
