Farquharson helps Mustangs boot Clarke

Kevon Farguharson scored two goals Saturday as Mount Mercy topped Clarke, 3-1, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference soccer match at Lower Kingston Field.

Farquharson gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead after a scoreless first half.

Clarke pulled within 2-1 on a goal by Lorenzo Cortez, but Mario Fichtner gave Mount Mercy (7-2-1) some breathing room with an insurance goal.

Clarke fell to 4-7 in the league opener for both teams.

Peacocks nip Mustangs in men's soccer

Rhys Williams scored on a penalty kick in the 86th minute Wednesday to give the Upper Iowa Peacocks a 2-1 victory over Mount Mercy in a men's soccer match at Lower Kingston Field.

Marko Govedarica gave Mount Mercy a 1-0 lead in the first half with an assist from Harris Hadzalic. Upper Iowa tied the game, 1-1, in the second half on a goal by Leandro Pena.

Upper Iowa (4-2-1) is ranked 25th in NCAA Division II. Mount Mercy (8-2) is an NAIA school.

Mount Mercy soccer players honored

Marco Fichtner and Monueir Moodie of the Mount Mercy University men's soccer program have been named Athletes of the Week by the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

Fichtner, from Germany, collected two goals and two assists in a pair of victories and was named the Offensive Player of the Week in soccer. Fichtner has scored eight goals this season and is a repeat winner of the award.

Moodie, from Jamaica, helped the Mustangs surrender just one goal in their victories over Dordt and Judson and was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Mount Mercy sports an 8-1 record, the best start in school history.

Mount Mercy kicks Judson, 5-0

The Mount Mercy Mustangs got goals from five different players Saturday and blanked Judson (Ill.), 5-0, in a men's soccer match at the Lower Kingston Field.

Fergus O'Connor, Kevon Farquharson, Hieu Ngo, Marco Fichtner and Yinka Ajibola found the net for the Mustangs, who raced to a 4-0 lead in the first half.

Mohamed Hamed, Farquharson, Fichtner and Haris Hadzalic collected assists for Mount Mercy (8-1). O'Connor's goal was unassisted.

Tomas Zajfert made two saves in goal for the Mustangs for the shutout.

Fichtner lifts Mustangs in 2 OTs

Marco Fichtner scored in the 102nd minute of the game Tuesday to give Mount Mercy a 2-1 victory over Dordt in double-overtime at the Lower Kingston Field.

Hieu Ngo collected the assist on Fichtner's game-winner as the Mustangs raised their soccer record to 7-1 for the season.

Dordt took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by VJ Hachaba. Jamie Booth tied the game for Mount Mercy, 1-1, in the second half with an assist from Fichtner in the 57th minute.

Mount Mercy out-shot Dordt in the match, 15-9.
