Mount Mercy - Volleyball

No. 21 Central Methodist spikes MMU

The 21st-ranked Central Methodist women's volleyball team swept Mount Mercy, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14, in a Heart of America Conference match Saturday at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Becca Thomson led the Mustangs with nine kills. Kayla Daggett had 24 assists. Lauren Stopko contributed 14 digs.

Mount Mercy fell to 15-10 overall and 4-8 in the conference. Central Methodist raised its records to 19-3 overall and 9-2 in the league.

Mount Mercy tops MidAmerica Nazarene

Alyssa Weldon collected 10 kills and 12 digs Friday as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team defeated MidAmerica Nazarene, 26-24, 25-23, 25-17, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Maddie Bell had nine kills, Becca Thomson eight, Olivia Coe five, Olivia Makinen four and Kayla Daggett three in a balanced attack at the net.

Daggett dished out 32 assists. Lauren Stopko had 25 digs and Thomson 15. Bell blocked four shots.

Mount Mercy - Volleyball

Mount Mercy trimmed by Benedictine

ATCHISON, Kan. - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team suffered another tough loss Sunday with a 3-1 setback against Benedictine in a Heart of America Conference match in Kansas.

The Mustangs dropped the first two sets 25-20, 25-12, but they fought back with a 25-15 victory in the third set to stay alive. The MustangsĀ  battled Benedictine into overtime in the fourth set before falling short, 30-28.

Becca Thomson led the Mustangs with 14 kills. Alyssa Weldon had eight kills and Maddie Bell had six.

Kayla Daggett contributed 31 assists for Mount Mercy. Lauren Stopko had 14 digs, Gabi Delsing 12 and Weldon 11.

Mount Mercy fell to 14-9 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Benedictine raised its records to 12-8 overall and 7-3 in the league.

Mustangs spiked by No. 2 Grand View

You knew the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team might be in a for a rough night Tuesday when the Grand View Vikings strolled into the gym with a shiny No. 2 national ranking and a half-dozen players who all measured at least six feet tall.

The Mustangs gave the Vikings a good battle at times but dropped a Heart of America Conference match, 25-15, 25-23, 25-16 at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

"They're a heck of a good team," said Mount Mercy Coach Deb Marlin. "The conference title is right there for them to snag. And I don't think a national championship is out of the question for them."

Grand View raised its perfect records to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Mount Mercy fell to 13-7 overall and 3-5 in the league.

"We had to have our best game tonight," said Marlin. "And I thought we played really well at times and we played hard at times. Just crucial mistakes at crucial times."

The second set was tied, 23-23, but Grand View won the last two points for a 2-0 lead.

Mount Mercy falls at Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team lost to Evangel, 25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17, in a Heart of America Conference match Saturday at the Ashcroft Center.

Alyssa Weldon led the Mustangs with 15 kills. Maddie Bell and Torie Alexander had eight kills. Becca Thomson finished with seven.

Caiti Peterson accumulated 40 assists in the four sets. Lauren Stopko had 21 digs.

Mount Mercy fell to 13-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference. Evangel raised its records to 12-10 overall and 4-3 in the league.
