Mount Mercy volleyball splits matches

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team split its two matches at a tournament in Omaha Saturday.

The Mustangs lost to Grace University, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12, and swept William Penn, 25-8, 25-14, 25-11.

The split left Mount Mercy with a 12-4 record.

Cori Peterzalek collected 26 kills against Grace. Abbie Perez had 34 assists and Peterzalek had 22. Lauren Stopko contributed 27 digs. Emma Pisarik had seven blocks.

Olivia Coe provided 12 kills against William Penn. Peterzalek had 14 assists and Perez had 13.

Mustangs go 3-1 at Waldorf tourney

FOREST CITY - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team finished with a 3-1 record at the Waldorf Invitational Saturday.

The Mustangs lost to Cardinal Stritch in their first match Saturday in straight sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20. They rebounded with an 18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 verdict over Waldorf.

Cori Peterzalek led Mount Mercy with 14 kills against Cardinal Stritch. Abbie Perez collected 18 assists and Peterzalek had 12. Becca Thomson contributed 14 digs.

Thompson paced the Mustangs with 16 kills against Waldorf. Olivia Coe had 13 kills. Perez picked up 24 more assists and Peterzalek had 19. Stopko and Thomson had 17 digs.

Mount won both of its matches Saturday at the tournament and is 9-3 for the season.

Mount Mercy volleyball gets split

CHICAGO - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team split its two matches at the SXU-TCC Crossover Tournament in Chicago Saturday.

The Mustangs swept Roosevelt, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16, in their first match. The Mustangs lost to St. Xavier, 25-18, 27-25, 25-15 in their second outing.

Mount Mercy (4-2) also split two matches Friday, beating Trinity Lutheran 3-0 and falling to Saint Francis 3-2.

Becca Thomson had 15 kills in the victory over Roosevelt. Abbie Perez collected 20 assists and Cori Peterzalek had 10 assists. Allie McQuiston contributed 14 digs for the Mustangs.

Leslie Hoffmann, Megan Paustian and Olivia Coe had six kills in the loss to St. Xavier. Perez had 11 assists. Thomson made 11 digs.

Mount Mercy volleyball wins twice

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team cruised to a pair of 3-0 victories Saturday in a triangular meet at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs began the season by sweeping Purdue North Central, 25-12, 25-19, 25-21, and by topping William Penn, 25-19, 25-13, 25-14.

Cori Peterzalek collected 10 kills against Purdue North Central. Becca Thomson and Olivia Coe had eight kills for the Mustangs. Peterzalek provided 17 assists and Abbie Perez had 14 assists. Lauren Stopko contributed 17 digs.

Peterzalek led a balanced attack against William Penn with 10 kills. Leslie Hoffmann had nine kills and Thomson had eight. Perez collected 20 assists and Peterzalek had 14. Thomson had 10 digs and Allie McQuiston had eight.

Hoffmann of Mount Mercy honored by MCC

Leslie Hoffmann of Mount Mercy University has been named to the Midwest Collegiate Conference all-star volleyball squad.

Megan Paustian and Abbie Perez of Mount Mercy received honorable mention.

Fourteen players were named all-conference and 14 more received honorable mention.
