Jefferson - Boys Cross Country

J-Hawks 12th in MVC Super Meet

Linn-Mar sophomore Josh Evans added another title to his growing list of accomplishments Thursday in cross country.

Evans won the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet by 12 seconds at Noelridge Park in 15:52, keeping him undefeated against in-state competition this season.

Evans is ranked No.1 in the state and has won all of his races this season except the Heartland Classic, where he placed second behind a runner from Minnesota.

Cedar Falls emerged as the team champion with 86 points. Washington and Linn-Mar both finished with 93 points.

Washington junior Etienne Nzoyisaba placed second in 16:04 and teammate Robert Hogg was fourth in 16:06. The two Warriors bided their time Thursday and stayed back in the pack, then made strong kicks to race toward the top.

Jacob Aune of Prairie placed fifth in 16:10.

Prairie finished fifth in the team standings. Kennedy ran 11th, Jefferson 12th and Xavier 13th.

J-Hawks run 3rd at Iowa City race

IOWA CITY - Cedar Rapids Jefferson senior Taylor Mueller finished in fourth place at the Bud Williams Invitational cross country meet Thursday to help the J-Hawks take third in the team standings.

Mueller covered the 5-kilometer layout at the University of Iowa Ashton Cross Country Course in 16 minutes, 57.6 seconds. Brook Price of Iowa City High won the race in 16:49.9 to help the Little Hawks win the team championship.

Taylor Mueller 6th at Anamosa Invite

ANAMOSA - Jefferson senior Taylor Mueller finished and the J-Hawks finished fifth in the team race Saturday at the Anamosa Invitational boys cross country meet.

Monticello had three runners in the top four and cruised to the team title with 36 points. Conner Smock of Mount Vernon-Lisbon won the 5k race in 16 minutes, 33 seconds. Mount Vernon-Lisbon was second with 86 points.

Other runners that scored for the J-Hawks were Devin Stone (29th), Jason Chung (31st), Ky Kramer (34th) and Maverick Guyer (44th).

J-Hawk boys 14th at Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - Etienne Nzoyisaba ran second and Robert Hogg third to lead Washington to second place Thursday at the Rich Engel Classic boys cross country meet.

Washington finished with 92 points. Cedar Falls won with 58. The Linn-Mar junior varsity was sixth, Kennedy ninth and Jefferson 14th.

Daniel Huff of Waverly Shell-Rock won the 5k race in 15 minutes, 29 seconds.

Jefferson - Boys Cross Country

J-Hawk boys 12th at PV Invitational

BETTENDORF - Linn-Mar's Josh Evans was the winner and was one of three Lions to place in the top five Saturday at the Spartan Invitational boys cross country meet.

The Lions tied Pleasant Valley for the team title with 68 points, but was awarded second place by criteria.

Linn-Mar's Chase Grabau finished fourth, Daniel Murphy fifth, Keegan Cook 27th and Bryce Poellet 31st. No. 6 runner Tyler Chlystun, whose placing did not count in the team score, fin ished 48th.

Evans ran the course in 16 minutes, 2 seconds. He was 34 seconds ahead of second place finisher Matt Butler of Bettendorf.

Prairie's Jacob Aune finished eighth and led the Hawks to an eighth-place finish. Xavier was 11th and Jefferson 12th.
