Jeff girls run 5th at Anamosa

ANAMOSA - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls cross country team placed fifth out of 10 teams at the Anamosa Invitational Saturday.

Megan Ely paced the J-Hawks by finishing 12th in 17 minutes, 19 seconds for the 4 kilometer course.

The Jefferson boys finished seventh out of 11 teams in their race. Jason Chung led the J-Hawks by finishing 19th in 18:56 for five kilometers.

J-Hawk girls run 3rd at IMS meet

KALONA — The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls cross country team placed third out of 12 teams at the Iowa Mennonite School Early Bird Invitational in Kalona on Tuesday.

The Jefferson boys placed fifth out of nine teams in their race.

Megan Ely finished seventh in the individual standings for the Jefferson girls, and Sarah Hanna was just a second behind in eighth place for the J-Hawks.

Jason Chung led the Jefferson boys in 18th place.

Muscatine won the girls' championship by finishing an impressive 1-2-3-5-6. Iowa City High won the boys' title by finishing 2-3-5-6-7.

Zikes runs 2nd at Iowa City High Invy

IOWA CITY - Jefferson's Michelle Zikes finished second Thursday at the Bud Williams Invitational girls cross country meet hosted by Iowa City High.

City High won the girls race with 27 points. Jefferson finished third with 56, four points behind second-place Pekin.

Meredith Koenigsfeld finished sixth for the J-Hawks.

Devin Stone was the top finisher for Jefferson in the boys race. He finished 11th. The J-Hawks finished third.

City High also won the boys meet.

Zikes runs 3rd at Anamosa Invy

CENTER JUNCTION - Jefferson senior Michelle Zikes placed third at the Anamosa Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Central Park.

Zikes covered the 4-kilometer course in 16:04. Lauren Benzing of Solon won the race in 15:47.

The J-Hawks finished fifth out of nine schools in the girls team standings. Meredith Koenigsfeld placed 14th for Jefferson.

Devin Stone finished 14th as the Jefferson boys placed seventh in their team standings.
