Jefferson - Girls Cross Country

J-Hawk girls 8th at Anamosa Invitational

ANAMOSA - Davenport Assumption had five runners finish in the top 10 and squeezed past Solon, 33-36, at the Anamosa Invitational girls cross country meet Saturday.

Jefferson finished eighth. Rachel Sedlacek was the J-Hawks' top finisher in 30th.

Solon's Lauren Benzing was the winner of the 4k race in 15 minutes, 44 seconds.

J-Hawk girls 15th at Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - Kennedy had three runners finish in the top 10 Thursday, propelling the Cougars to the championship of the Rich Engel Classic girls cross country meet.

Katie Wampole finished fourth, Alyssa Averhoff eighth and Lauren Meyer 10th for the Cougars.

Washington finished sixth, the Linn-Mar junior varsity ninth and Jefferson was 15th in the 16-team field.

Washington's Shannon Gorman finished sixth.

Waverly-Shell Rock's Anna Holdiman won the 4k race in 14 minutes, 45 seconds.

J-Hawk girls 12th at PV meet

BETTENDORF - Linn-Mar's Carolyn Newhouse finished third and two teammates placed in the top 10 Saturday at the Spartan Invitational girls cross country meet.

Linn-Mar finished in second place behind Naperville North of suburban Chicago. The Lions beat Iowa City High by one point.

Linn-Mar's Brooklyn Kascel was seventh and Morgan Uridil ninth. Rachel Perry finished 26th and Caitlin Novak 31st.

Bettendorf's Anna Peer won the race in 14 minutes, 45 seconds. Newhouse finished in 15:07, Kascel in 15:22 and Uridil in 15:25.

Prairie was eighth, Xavier ninth and Jefferson 12th.

Jefferson - Girls Cross Country

J-Hawk girls run 5th at Iowa Mennonite

KALONA - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls cross country team placed fifth out of nine teams at the Iowa Mennonite Invitational cross country meet Tuesday in Kalona.

Iowa City High won the title with 29 points, followed by Muscatine (77), Wapello (90), Lone Tree (141), Jefferson (146), Mediapolis (184), Winfield-Mount Union (211), Waco (244) and Keota (300).

Rachel Sedlacek finished 17th in 18 minutes, 19 seconds to lead the J-Hawks. Michelle Zikes was 25th (18:59), Bethany Polansky 33rd (19:50), Carson Burgart 35th (19:55), Rachel Broghammer 36th (19:58) and Jennifer McDowell 42nd (20:53).
