Sutton fires 65 as Cougars win MVC title

WATERLOO - Davis Sutton and the Kennedy Cougars collected a resounding victory at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Golf Meet at Gates Park in Waterloo Thursday.

Sutton fired a 7-under-65 to grab medalist honors and the Cougars won the conference title by 18 shots over Xavier.

Kennedy claimed four spots in the top-10 standings. Ross Grekoff was fifth with an even-par 72, Cole Murdock finished sixth at 73 and Conner Koberg was eighth with a 74.

Jefferson - Boys Golf

Cougars, Saints pace all-Metro golf

The Kennedy Cougars claimed five spots on the all-Metro boys golf team Thursday and the Xavier Saints grabbed four berths.

Davis Sutton, Conner Koberg and Cole Murdock of Kennedy made the first team. Ross Grekoff and Seth Nutt from Kennedy were honored on the second unit.

Matt Junge and Ben Sagers from Xavier were first-team selections. Kellen Gray and John Ingwersen made second team all-Metro for the Saints.

Dominic Rodriguez of Washington was named first team all-Metro.

Denny Goettel and Chris James of Washington were named the Coaching Staff of the Year.

Jefferson golfers nab 1st victory

WATERLOO - Mitch Willems and Adam Van Oort shared medalist honors with a 3-over-par 39 Thursday as the Jefferson J-Hawks won a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular meet at Gates Golf Course for their first victory of the season.

Freshman Nile Happel gave the J-Hawks a boost with a 4-over 40 with his best round of the season.

Jefferson finished at 159, followed by Iowa City West (169), Waterloo West (199) and Waterloo East (210). Noah Federici of Iowa City West shared medalist honors with the two J-Hawks with a 39.

Zach Denny shot a 5-over 41 for Jefferson.

J-Hawk golfers clipped by Tigers

WATERLOO - Jefferson was clipped by one stroke by Cedar Falls in a boys quadrangular golf meet Thursday at Irv Warren golf course.

The J-Hawks' Mitch Willems was medalist with a 1-over par 36.

It was the third straight meet the J-Hawks have lost by a slim margin. They lost by three to Wahlert two weeks ago and by two shots to Prairie last week.

Jefferson - Boys Golf

Prairie edges Jeff golfers

Prairie nudged Jefferson by two shots Thursday to win a quadrangular boys golf meet at Jones Park.

Prairie's Cooper Reittinger was co-medalist with Jefferson's Zach Denny. Both shot two-over par 35.

The Hawks finished with a 147 score to Jefferson's 149. Dubuque Senior was third and Waterloo West a distant fourth.
