Jeff girls blanked in two MVC meets

DUBUQUE - The Jefferson girls tennis team put up a good fight in several matches Saturday, but the J-Hawks were blanked by Dubuque Wahlert and Dubuque Senior in a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference meets in Dubuque.

Mary Korch played No. 1 singles against Wahlert and Kylie Jonas played No. 1 singles against Senior.

Jefferson - Girls Tennis

Ellie Anderson wins twice at regional

Ellie Anderson of Linn-Mar won two matches at a Class 2A regional tennis tournament Thursday before being ousted.

The regional was scheduled for Ottumwa, but was moved to the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids due to rain.

Anderson clipped Amelia Prybil of Iowa City High, 6-1, 6-0, and defeated Maria Burtch of Iowa City West, 6-3, 6-1, in her first two matches. She lost to Eve Small of Iowa City High, 6-1, 6-1, in he next contest.

Raquel Kragel of Linn-Mar defeated Kylie Jonas of Jefferson, 6-2, 6-1, but lost in her next match. Jamie Wantock and Ashley Resewehr of Linn-Mar won their first doubles match before falling.

Metro players net MVC tennis honors

Brady Anderson of Linn-Mar and Vale Caro of Prairie have been named Athletes of the Year on the Mississippi Valley Conference all-star tennis teams in the Valley Division.

Jackson Hoyt (Washington), Tim Paulson (Linn-Mar), Kyle D'mello (Xavier) and Jacob Donald (Jefferson) joined Anderson as first-team selections on the boys first-team honor squad.

Magui Caro (Prairie), Lilly Hartman (Washington), Hannah Sherman (Washington) and Jessica Pedersen (Kennedy) joined Vale Caro on the girls first-team honor squad.

Chris Wundram of Linn-Mar was named the Valley Division Coach of the Year for the boys. Scott Leggat of Prairie was named the Valley Division Coach of the Year for the girls.

Cougars blank Jeff in regional tennis

The Kennedy Cougars defeated Jefferson, 5-0, in the opening round of the Class 2A regional girls tennis tournament Saturday morning at the Kennedy courts.

The Cougars will host Washington in the regional quarterfinals May 24.

Jessica Pedersen, Evann Martin, Lauren Gifford, Gabby Olejniczak and Michelle Becker won their matches for Kennedy.

Vale Caro, Magui Caro, Michelle Grenn and Karleigh Schilling won their singles matches by 10-0 scores Tuesday as the Prairie Hawks sweptJefferson, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Jefferson.

Vale Caro blanked Kylie Jonas at No. 1 singles.
