DUBUQUE -- Hempstead won five of six singles matches and rolled past Jefferson, 6-3, Tuesday in girls tennis.

Lydia French posted Jefferson's only singles win.

Jefferson girls blank Mount Vernon

Crystal Terman collected a 10-0 victory at No.1 singles Thursday as the Jefferson girls tennis team opened its season with a 9-0 whitewash of Mount Vernon at the Jefferson courts.

Lydia French, Desarae Richter, Rochell Castorf, Shaylee Maas and Victoria Emery also breezed to victory in their singles matches for the J-Hawks.

J-Hawks run into tough draws at girls tennis

IOWA CITY -- Jefferson could not get past second-round foes from Iowa City West and Muscatine on Thursday at the girls regional tennis tournament.

West's Addy Riley won the singles title over teammate Olivia Lofgren. The West doubles team of Lill Oetting and Lola White-Baer also won, beating Muscatine's Angie Alllgood and Hannah Eichelberger.

Riley defeated Jefferson's Anna Striegel and Lofgren beat the J-Hawks' Megan Smothers in second round singles matches. Smothers beat Katie Hicks of Ottumwa in the first round and Striegel had a bye.

Both Jefferson doubles teams -- Veroonica Day/Crystal Terman and Alyssa Dlouhy/Kelli Walsh -- won their first round matches. But Day and Terman were knocked out by Oetting and White-Baer, and Dlouhy and Walsh fell to Allgood and Eichelberger in the second round.

Jefferson girls toppled by Xavier in tennis

Xavier swept the three doubles matches and beat Jefferson, 6-3, Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley girls girls tennis meet at Xavier.

Jefferson's Anna Striegel beat Lisa Cowden, 10-7, at No. 1 singles.

Cowden teamed with Laura Birky to beat Megan Smothers and Crystal Terman at No. 1 doubles.
