J-Hawks maul Mustangs in girls tennis

Jefferson's Anna Striegel beat Becca Young, 10-1, at No. 1 singles and led the J-Hawks past Mount Vernon, 8-1, Friday in a nonconference girls tennis meet at Jefferson.

The meet was a makeup from March 31.

Striegel, Megan Smothers, Crystal Terman and Kelli Walsh all won two matches for Jefferson.

J-Hawks rout Iowa City High in girls tennis

Anna Striegel beat Lyndsay Hill in No. 1 singles to propel Jefferson past Iowa City High, 8-1, Wednesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls tennis meet at Jefferson.

Striegel, Megan Smothers, Crystal Terman and Kelli Walsh won singles and doubles matches for the J-Hawks.

J-Hawks routed by Linn-Mar, beat Prairie in girls tennis

Linn-Mar's Katie Rakers beat Jefferson's Anna Striegel, 10-5, at No. 1 singles and sent the Lions past the J-Hawks, 9-0, Saturday morning in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls tennis meet at Vets Tennis Center.

The J-Hawks bounced back with a 7-2 win over Prairie in the afternoon.

Kennedy blanks J-Hawks in girls tennis

Jackie Pedersen defeated Anna Striegel at No. 1 singles to lead Cedar Rapids Kennedy's 9-0 rout of Jefferson on Tuesday at the J-Hawks' courts.

Kennedy is 2-0 overall and in the Mississippi Valley Conference. The Cougars also have won a pair of invitational team tournaments.

Jefferson is 1-1 overall and in the MVC.

Jeff girls tennis tips Hempstead

Veronica Day and Kelli Walsh each won singles and doubles matches to lead Jefferson past Hempstead, 5-4, Tuesday in a girls tennis meet at Jefferson.

The teams split the six singles matches, but Jefferson won two of three doubles matches to win the meet.
