Cougars' best outing beats Wahlert

Kennedy shrugged off a season's worth of frustration and rolled past Dubuque Wahlert, 3183-3078, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference bowling meet at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Kennedy (5-9, 2-7 MVC) broke the 3,000-pin barrier for the first time this season. The Cougars had four bowlers roll 400-plus series. Casey Sheets burned up the lanes with a 270 high game and 497 series, but he was hardly alone. Kyle Custer rolled a 235 game and 413 series, Troy McKiernan a 234 and 437, and Justin Smith a 228 and 428. Jared Staub also had a 234 game.

Wahlert (3-6, 3-6) also had four bowlers roll 400-plus series.

Cougars fall by 3 pins

WATERLOO -- Kennedy's rally from an 81-pin deficit came up just short Friday in a 2671-2668 loss to Waterloo West in Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling.

Kennedy (4-9, 1-7 MVC) trailed by 31 points after the first round, then fell behind by 81 pins after the first two Baker round games. A furious rally gave the Cougars the next three games -- 198-190, 189-151, 214-183 -- but they fell three pins shy.

Troy McKiernan had high game of 191.  Casey Sheets rolled a 364 series and Austin Marshall was at 363.

Waterloo West is 4-4, 4-4.

300 game sends Senior past Cougars

DUBUQUE -- Nate Oertel rolled a 300 game and 477 series to spur Dubuque Senior past Kennedy, 3358-2980, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet.

Senior (6-1, 6-1 MVC) maintained its first place spot in the Mississippi Division. The Rams had four bowlers break the 400 series barrier.

Anthony spoke rolled high game of 223 for Kennedy (4-8, 1-6). Jared Staub rolled a 220 and had high series with a 388.

300 Baker game not enough for Cougars

Kennedy's five bowlers combined for a perfect 300 game in the Baker round, but it wasn't enough to rally the Cougars past Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar had four of its five bowlers roll 400 or better series and beat Kennedy, 3177-2978, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Corey Prokop had high game (243) and series (454) for Linn-Mar (5-4, 4-2 MVC). Tristan Stevens had a 449, Tyler Lemon 434 and Matt Wheaton 402. Dreyson Robe just missed with a 396. It was a season-high score for the Lions.

Corey Williams had a 219 high game and Joe Warkel a 409 high series for Kennedy (4-7, 1-5).
