Cougars perfect in rout of Waterloo East

You can't do any better than the Kennedy girls tennis team did against Waterloo East on Tuesday.

The Cougars won all nine matches by 10-0 scores and blanked Waterloo East, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet.

Kennedy played 12 girls. None of the girls that played singles played doubles.

Cougars girls tennis wins its own tourney

Jackie Pedersen, Katherine Thompson, Kali Hildebrand, Ashley Schlueter and Lindsay Minder all won individual titles Saturday as Cedar Rapids Kennedy dominated the Vance Fuller Invitational at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center.

Kennedy finished with 34 points to top Decorah (26), Waterloo West (16) and Ottumwa (14).

Pedersen breezed through all three of her matches at No.1 singles, winning 23 of 24 games. She prevailed 8-0, 7-1 and 8-0. Thompson was the champion at No.3 singles with three victories by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

"It was a great start to the season," said Kennedy Coach Joe Benedict.

No.1 Singles

Jackie Pedersen (CRK) def. Katrina Shindelas (D) 8-0; def. Ashley Salgado (O) 7-1; def. Ashlyn Christensen (WW) 8-0. Flight champion.

No.2 Singles

Sarah Lasecki (CRK) lost to Kelsey Kruse (D) 5-3; def. Ally Schultz (O) 6-2; def. Kelsey Andersen (WW) 7-1. Second place.

No.3 Singles

Katherine Thompson (CRK) def. Emma Breitenstein (D) 6-2; def. Kelsey Granneman (O) 6-2; def. Sadie Vogt (WW) 6-2. Flight champion.

No. 4 Singles

Kali Hildebrand (CRK) tied Pearl Faldet (D) 4-4; def. Katie Hicks (O) 7-1; def. Melisa Kudic (WW) 6-2. Flight champion.

No.5 Singles

Ashley Schlueter (CRK) def. Erica Bjelland (D) 7-1; def. Katie Wellman (O) 8-0; tied Emma Beganovic (WW) 4-4. Flight champion.

No. 6 Singles

Lindsay Minder (CRK) def. Maddie Grimm (D) 7-1; def. Jennifer Klodt (O) 6-2; def. Kelsey Elfritz (WW) 7-1. Flight champion.
