Stokes nets 29 as Lions dump Little Hawks

Kiah Stokes and the Linn-Mar Lions braced themselves for a big early-season test from Virginia Johnson and the Iowa City Little Hawks Tuesday night (Nov. 30).

They aced it.

A-plus, ladies.

Stokes poured in 29 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked four shots as the fourth-ranked Lions dumped the third-ranked Little Hawks, 60-48, at Linn-Mar.

Stokes nets 30 as Lions cruise in opener

MUSCATINE — The Queen of Iowa high school basketball has a new court this year.

Kiah Stokes is back after leading Linn-Mar to the Class 4A state title last season, but all the other starters have graduated to new endeavors.

So far, so good.

Stokes poured in 30 points and snared 11 rebounds Saturday night (Nov. 27) as the fourth-ranked Lions spanked Muscatine, 63-29, in their season opener at the Muscatine Fieldhouse.

Linn-Mar - Girls Basketball

Lions No. 4 in 1st poll

Defending champion Linn-Mar and Washington are the only Metro teams ranked in the preseason girls basketball rankings released Thursday (Nov. 18) by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Linn-Mar is ranked No. 4 and Washington No. 6 in Class 4A.  Mississippi Valley Conference foes Iowa City High, Iowa City West and Waterloo West are ranked Nos. 3, 8 and 11, respectively.  Des Moines East is ranked No. 1.
