Waterloo East hands Lions first loss

WATERLOO — Justin Wyant’s 402 series and 219 high game wasn’t enough as Linn-Mar was beaten by Waterloo East, 3193-2710, Friday (Dec. 17) in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet.

The loss was the first for Linn-Mar. The Lions are 3-1.

Lions roll past Saints

Justin Wyant rolled games of 254-222 for a 476 series that powered Linn-Mar past Xavier, 2895-2474, Friday (Dec. 10) in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Linn-Mar’s Corey Prokop rolled a high game of 226 en route to a 441 series.  Kyle Elliott had high game (182) and series (343) for Xavier.

Lions drop Wahlert

DUBUQUE — Corey Prokop rolled a high game of 246 en route to a 473 series that led Linn-Mar past Dubuque Wahlert, 2913-2805, Dec. 3 in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Cherry Lanes.

Tristan Stevens rolled a 458 for Linn-Mar. The Lions built a 142-pin lead in the first round to withstand a 34-pin deficit in the Baker round.

Bowling is fastest-growing sport in Iowa

Too bad high school letter jackets are no longer in vogue.

Maybe then the newest group of prep letter winners would get more recognition.

Right now, high school bowling is mostly a sport followed by the bowlers themselves, their family members and few fans.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not popular.

“It is,” says Linn-Mar head boys coach Andy Diercks, “the fastest-growing high school and collegiate sport in the country.

“It’s had double-digit growth in terms of numbers in the past five or six years. And it just keeps growing.”

Linn-Mar - Boys Bowling

Wyant sparks Linn-Mar victory

Justin Wyant rolled games of 280 and 246 Tuesday as Linn-Mar topped Iowa City High by a score of 3028-2882 in the boys’ bowling opener Nov. 23 at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Wyant’s two-game series of 526 challenged the school record of 547 held by his brother, Robert.
