Linn-Mar girls rally by Dubuque Senior

DUBUQUE -- The Linn-Mar Lions erased a 139-point deficit after the individual round Friday and nipped Dubuque Senior by four pins, 2439-2435,in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling meet at Cherry Lanes.

McKenzie Routhe led the Lions with games of 161 and 204 for a 365 series.

LINN-MAR: McKenzie Routhe 161-204=365, Paige Miller 157-188=345, Nicole McMahon 157-131=288, Brooke McMorran 113-165=278, Courtney Bates 124-98=222, Kayla Johnson 162-127=289.

Good Baker round lifts Linn-Mar girls

IOWA CITY -- McKenzie Routhe rolled a 338 series and Brooke McMorran a 336 to lead Linn-Mar past Iowa City West, 2362-2281, Friday in girls bowling.

The match was tied after first-round singles. Linn-Mar won the match in the Baker round where it outscored West, 839-758.

Linn-Mar girls roll past City High

Brooke McMorran rolled a 225 high game and 386 series to lead Linn-Mar past Iowa City High, 2490-2120, Friday in girls bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Paige Miller had a 328 series and McKenzie Routhe a 320 for the Lions.

Linn-Mar outscored City High 904-718 in the Baker round to pull away for the win.

Schwarzenstein, Routhe 1st team MVC & Metro

Cedar Rapids Xavier junior Tara Trcka collected a couple of big honers Friday.

Trcka was named the Athlete of the Year for girls bowling in the Mississippi Valley Conference (Valley Division) and in the Metro area in voting by coaches.

Trcka was the defending Class 1A state champion, but finished eighth in Thursday's state meet at Des Moines. She had a 217-pin average during the season.

Nicole Petersen of Jefferson, Stacey Schwarzenstein and McKenzie Routhe of Linn-Mar, and Keely Pernicka of Washington joined Trcka as first-team selections on the all-MVC and all-Metro teams.

Jami Kadolph of Prairie was first team on the all-MVC team. Amanda Wiedemeier of Kennedy was first team all-Metro.

Russ Camacho, who guided Xavier back to the Class 1A state tournament, was MVC Valley Division Coach of the Year. Virg Cerveny, whose Jefferson team qualified for the 2A tournament, was the all-Metro Coach of the Year.

Prairie girls roll past Linn-Mar bowlers

Niona Bruce rolled a 378 series and Katlynn Palmer a 374 to lead Prairie past Linn-Mar, 2508-2362, Tuesday in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Linn-Mar's Stacey Schwarzenstein rolled a 211 high game and Brooke McMorran a 207.

Prairie held a 90-pin lead after the first round and outscored the Lions by 56 pins in the Baker round.
