No. 4 Lions march into substate finals

Daniel Luzindya fired in two goals Thursday as the fourth-ranked Linn-Mar Lions topped Cedar Falls, 6-1, in the Class 3A substate semifinals at Linn-Mar Stadium.

The Lions will host Cedar Rapids Washington in the substate finals Saturday at noon, with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Des Moines.

Ben Johnson, Faheem Hossain, Jonny Williams and Jack Ramsey also scored for Linn-Mar. Leroy Enzugusi and Devin Eby collected two assists. Johnson, Alexy Boehm and Hunter Wong also had assists.

Sophomore Cody Ritter got the win in goal.

Lions topple Washington boys, 3-1

Ben Johnson scored two goals and Leroy Enzugusi added another as Linn-Mar defeated Washington, 3-1, in Mississippi Conference boys soccer action Thursday at Kingston Stadium.

Trevor Thulin scored for the Warriors on an assist from Aroni Niyikiza.

No.5 Linn-Mar boys blank Rams

Ben Johnson and Hunter Wong scored a pair of goals Tuesday night as the fifth-ranked Linn-Mar soccer team rolled by Dubuque Senior, 7-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Alexy Boehm, Devin Eby and Daniel Luzindya also scored for the Lions.

Noah Ajram, Boehm, Leroy Enzugusi, Johnson, Jack Ramsey and Wong collected assists. Philip Adams made one save for the shutout.

Lions, Hawks gain in boys soccer poll

The Linn-Mar Lions and Prairie Hawks both climbed one spot in the Class 3A boys soccer rankings Tuesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Linn-Mar jumped into the No. 4 spot in the poll and Prairie climbed into the No. 6 position. The Kennedy Cougars dropped two positions to 13th.

The Xavier Saints stayed No. 2 in the Class 2A rankings.

No. 5 Lions boot No. 4 Little Hawks

IOWA CITY - Sophomore Leroy Enzugusi fired in two goals Friday as the fifth-ranked Linn-Mar Lions blanked fourth-ranked Iowa City High, 2-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference showdown in Iowa City.

Alexy Boehm and Ben Johnson collected assists for the Lions.

Philip Adams pitched the shutout in goal for Linn-Mar.
