Linn-Mar - Boys Soccer

No. 4 Lions boot Iowa City West

The Linn-Mar Lions collected five goals from five different players Tuesday night and defeated 13th-ranked Iowa City West, 5-2, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match at Linn-Mar.

Hunter Wong, Daniel Luzindya, Devin Eby, Leroy Enzugusi and Nathan Luzindya scored for the fourth-ranked Lions.

Alexi Boehm had two assists for Linn-Mar. Ben Johnson, Bobby Charlton and Enzugusi also had assists.

Prairie, Linn-Mar climb in soccer poll

Linn-Mar and Prairie each climbed a spot in this week's Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association's Class 3A boys rankings.

The Lions (5-1) moved from fifth to fourth after their double overtime win over Kennedy. Prairie (7-0), jumped from ninth to seventh. Kennedy (4-3) dropped from sixth to eighth while Washington (3-5) remained at No. 14. Johnston tops the 3A poll

In 2A, Xavier (5-1), remained in the No. 2 spot behind Norwalk.

No. 5 Lions trim No. 6 Cougars in 2 OT

Sophomore Leroy Enzugusi scored off a feed from Hunter Wong midway through the second overtime allowing the fifth-ranked Linn-Mar Lions to trim No. 6 Kennedy, 2-1, in Thursday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Kennedy.

Mark Schulz gave Kennedy a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute with assists from Nick Newcamp and Jacob Sarasin.

Linn-Mar tied the match, 1-1, two minutes later on a goal by Wong o n an assist from Noah Ajram.

Luzindya shines for No.3 Lions

Daniel Luzindya fired in three goals Tuesday night as the third-ranked Linn-Mar soccer team rolled by Dubuque Wahlert, 5-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Ben Johnson and Bobby Charlton also scored for the Lions.

Johnson collected three assists. Luzindya, Faheem Hossain and Dustin Toy also had assists.

Cody Ritter got the shutout in goal.

Xavier boys kick Lions in OT

Luke Koechner converted a penalty kick in overtime Thursday night as the Xavier Saints edged Linn-Mar, 3-2, in a match of premier Mississippi Valley Conference soccer teams at Linn-Mar.

The Saints took a 2-0 lead on goals by Will Hanigan and Connor Ramlo, but the Lions tied the game on goals by Daniel Luzindya and Danny Peak in the last 10 minutes of the second half.

Mason Hoxie was fouled in the penalty box in the final minute of overtime. Koechner took the penalty kick and gave Xavier the victory.

Ramlo and Hoxie had assists for the Saints in the match. Ben Johnson and Alexy Boehm collected assists for the Lions.

Xavier is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A. Linn-Mar is ranked No. 3 in Class 3A.
