Johnson paces No.4 Linn-Mar soccer

CEDAR FALLS - Ben Johnson scored two goals Tuesday as the fourth-ranked Linn-Mar soccer team topped Cedar Falls, 3-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Cedar Falls.

Leroy Enzugusi also scored for the Lions. Johnson, Enzugusi and Danny Peak had assists.

Phil Adams and Cody Ritter shared time in goal for Linn-Mar. Cedar Falls scored its only goal on a penalty kick.

No.1 Lions shut out Little Hawks

IOWA CITY - There's a big difference between the No. 1 team and the No. 10 team in high school boys tennis.

The Linn-Mar Lions proved that Tuesday with a 9-0 victory over Iowa City High in Iowa City.

Tim Paulson posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Joe Hoff at No. 1 singles for Linn-Mar. Trevor McCann, Ben Myers, Shane Skvor, Kyle Brendes and and Lucas Huffman also won their singles matches for the top-ranked Lions.

Linn-Mar raised its records to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Linn-Mar - Boys Soccer

Linn-Mar boys win soccer title

The Linn-Mar Lions rolled by Cedar Falls, 7-1, in the championship match of the 2015 Linn-Mar Soccer Challenger Cup Tournament Saturday at home.

Ben Johnson, Leroy Enzugusi and Hunter Wong had two goals for the fourth-ranked Lions in the finals. Devin Eby also scored for Linn-Mar.

Philip Adams pitched a pair of shutouts in goal for Linn-Mar in pool play.

Daniel Luzindya had two goals as the Lions topped Muscatine, 4-0. Alexy Boehm and Danny Peak also connected for Linn-Mar.

Johnson, Luzindya and Enzugusi scored in a 3-0 victory over North Scott.

No.4 Lions trim Jefferson, 2-1

Alexy Boehm and Leroy Enzugusi scored goals Thursday night as the fourth-ranked Linn-Mar boys soccer team trimmed Jefferson, 2-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Jared Slagle picked up two assists for the Lions. Devin Eby also had an assist.

Anton Ndayishimi tallied for Jefferson with 4 minutes, 50 seconds left in the match with an assist from Joseph Sibomana.

Kennedy climbs to 3rd in boys soccer

The Kennedy Cougars climbed two spots to No. 3 in the Class 3A boys soccer rankings Tuesday without playing a game.

Iowa City West and Linn-Mar, two of Kennedy's chief rivals in the Mississippi Valley Conference, got their seasons started last week against tough competition and lost a match. Iowa City West (2-1) fell from No. 1 to No. 8. Linn-Mar (1-1) dropped one notch from No. 3 to No. 4.

The chances are pretty good the shuffling might continue all season.

Johnston is the new No. 1 team in Class 3A, according to the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. Prairie jumped one spot to 15th. Washington dropped out of the 3A rankings.
